B024 - That is a PW-1

So the only concern is to re-install anything that isn't working.

The un-install command for the linkss folder is known as the delete command (I.E: just delete it).

There is also a KUAL extension that will delete it for you.

PW1 (no-ads), fully jailbroken, using KUAL, calibre, and the cover plugin for calibre.

Even after I download new covers using the plugin, whenever I turn my kindle off, it doesn't go to the most recent cover I'm using. It always stays on the same cover. Any ideas??

I assume you mean that you added a new cover in calibre and resent the book -- but this hack isn't seeing the new cover.

There is a KUAL entry to clear the screensavers cover cache. Covers are cached because that way they can be instantly switched, rather than having to constantly extract the covers all the time.

That, and make sure the date/time is sane on your device.

I'm having troubles with this hack.
I'm using it in cover mode, which used to work fine (for like two years), but all of a sudden it stopped recognizing the covers and now it only ever shows the "The ScreenSavers Hack is currently in 'cover' mode, but hasn't yet successfully processed a book cover

" message.

I send all my books to the kindle through calibre, where I always add a cover in the metadata beforehand.
How can I troubleshoot this?

@Akegata: Try a clean reinstall of Python & the ScreenSavers hack. (by 'clean', I mean uninstall first, then wipe the linkss directory before reinstalling).

Well this is confusing.
I did a reinstall, now I get a "feedbooks" logo for all books instead of the regular error screen. Even for books I know worked before this started happening.

There must be some information missing from this story.
So a few questions, just to be certain of the basics:

*) What are the first for characters of the Kindle's serial number?
(There are a few special cases of Kindle models.)

*) Has this Kindle ever been one with "special" store screen savers?
(Hmm... Waterstone, Winterstone, some "W*" store name in Europe.)

*) Has this Kindle ever been one of the "Special Offers" Kindles?
(It is possible that Amazon has a database error in the SO removal.)

*) Has this Kindle ever had Doukan installed on it?
(Even if it has been removed, this might make a difference.)

*) Look in the "settings" device info section and tell us exactly which firmware version is currently installed.

Yes, it was originally bought as a SO kindle.

Firmware: 5.3.6 (1967980020)

The time is set correctly, although it drifts wildly when I reboot the kindle.
It's always set to airplane mode though, so I'm guessing an incorrect time wouldn't have any impact?

Keep it in airplane mode to avoid the OTA update to 5.6.1.1 -
At least until we have this figured out.

The only thing I noticed, was that it had been (originally) a SO Kindle.

In normal circumstances, the advice would be to contact Amazon Customer Service and check that it still correctly shown as having had the SO feature disabled.
But this isn't **normal circumstances** - -
To get the Amazon database and your Kindle to "agree" that it is no longer an SO device, you have to connect to Amazon by Wifi - -
Which will cause the device to suck in the OTA, 5.6.1.1 update.

So don't contact Amazon CS or take it out of airplane mode just yet.

Or connect for a very short time -- even an evil OTA update can't download 200+ MB in a half-minute. But be very very VERY VERY careful!

Then make sure to delete any suspicious partial update*.bin files.

Since the PW-1 devices are **not yet** running a 5.6.x series firmware -
The "rename as a directory" trick will still work to block the download.

Right, since somebody is certain to ask, here you go:

It is only the 5.6.x series which can defeat that blocking tactic.
(And 5.6.x series can defeat all but the most recent release of the Backdoor Lock)

(Note that the PW 5.6.x series changed the download name to remove the .tmp, which might explain why this doesn't work anymore on newer firmwares).
