Except that in this specific instance, the FW 3.x JB relies on stuff that was installed in the userstore in the first place
![]() That said, that specific warning should only point to yifan's JB, IIRC, which might have been self-contained, I can't quite remember. |

I see.
Don't really know much about the older stuff here -- a lot of this was before my time. ![]() |

It brings to mind that I don't know which JB I have in my original K3. Hmm... (guess I shouldn't be telling others to keep better notes ![]() |

thanks for your information!
So, the old jailbreak is still in there somewhere, but it doesn't work because I now have version 3.4.1 on the Kindle keyboard? That makes sense. I *think* the old one on my Kindle is version .06, so I'll try to install the "uninstall" on to the Kindle and run it. Hmmm. I hope it doesn't give me the same message, because I'm trying to put something else (jailbreak uninstall) on there. Hoping to try this later today. I don't really know how this stuff works, but I'm sure glad there are people like you out there who do! Thanks for your time. |

@jackieone: Nope, that warning definitely points to yifan's JB, not mine
![]() ![]() Only the installers are 'guarding' against each other (because trying to install both JB in parallel is a sure way to shoot yourself in the foot), you should be able to uninstall without trouble ![]() FWIW, in case that prompts people to go down memory lane and check out yifan's post, since the introduction of KindleTool in the mix, most of yifan's comments are outdated, and the latest version of this JB should ensure the best of both worlds (no more whitelisting needed, smart & automatic without having to hook into framework scripts and unpacking packages twice). |

Thank you.
I will have to search for Yifan's jailbreaks on the forum, to see which are available. I bought the Kindle Keyboard in June, 2012 so maybe that will help. I think I did the jailbreak in 2012, probably in the 3rd quarter of the year. *I hope* this is a good timeline. Well, I'll research and see what I can find. thanks for your additional information. |

Found Yifan's page which still has the jailbreak downloads!
So I started with 0.5.1 k3g_uninstall.bin, moved it on to my Kindle root, safely removed device, unplugged it, {home, menu, settings, menu} however, the "Update Your Kindle" was greyed out. Plugged in, removed 0.5.1 and installed 0.4 (the earliest one) but unfortunately, after following the same procedures, I still got the greyed out "Update". So, I'm not sure what my next step should be. Any ideas? |

@jackieone: That usually means it's the wrong file for your specific Kindle model, so double check w/ the Wiki.
That, or 3.4.1 is still crapping out on some legacy packages for some mystical reason. Repacking stuff with KindleTool should do the trick. |

Hi again,
Well, since there were only two downloads available from Yifan's page, I can't think of any other "uninstall" to use with this problem. I followed your link to KindleTool, but sorry to say it was Greek to me. I have no clue what all that meant, so I think I'm sort of stuck with the yucky screensavers that came with my Kindle. That said, if you have any other ideas, please share. Most appreciated! |

@jackieone: Which *exact* K3 model are you using, according to the wiki page I linked?

Well, at least the reason why legacy packages fail to show up on FW 3.4.1 isn't mystical anymore:
The legacy Python packager used the max value of a *signed* 32bit integer, instead of the *unsigned* value of such an integer (i.e., 2147483647 vs 4294967295) as the target OTA version, and since the OTA version of FW 3.4.1 (2540470001) passed that halfway mark, anything packaged with the legacy packager fails the version check. (KindleTool does things right, FWIW, which is why I linked to the repacking post ![]() ---- Spending so much time staring at the data types used in OTA headers paid off once again ;p. Hi,
I have a B008, Kindle keyboard with Wifi and 3g, US version. Usually referred to as "k3g" from various lists I've seen, including Wikiboard. Thanks for asking, hoping you have some ideas for me! |

@misojogi:
Right now, either use MRPI (but don't count on that working forever, that's arguably at best a missing feature, at worst a bug, and I intend to fix it); or, better, repack the package w/ KindleTool, as explained in the KindleTool post I linked earlier (keeping in mind that you'll want to build an ota package, not an otav2 like in the example). As another example, here's what I did w/ the file attached here for @jackieone: Code:
kindletool convert update_jailbreak_0.5.1_k3g_uninstall.bin kindletool create ota -d k3g update_jailbreak_0.5.1_k3g_uninstall_converted.tar.gz update_jailbreak_0.5.1_k3g_uninstall.bin Last edited by NiLuJe; 06-16-2015 at 09:50 PM. |

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers Translation: Your description is that of a B006 model Kindle, not that of a B008. Please check the first four characters of its serial number. You will need to use our recognized nicknames when looking for packages on this site for your model Kindle. Not because we insist, but because our update_*.bin packages are all "model locked", just like Amazon's. (The package insists.) |
