I only read a couple of stories on storiesonline, and maybe update once or twice a month when I see a new chapter. Would it be feasible to do some sort of cache, like FF.net and allow FFF to pull the fully-opened chapter from there? That way the few stories I read I would just click through and have it available.

If I read more there I'd consider getting an account, but otherwise it's not worth it for me.

As I recall, the Qt libraries handle url drag-n-drop while FFF has to handle d-n-d of whole emails. What happens when you drag a URL only from an email, I don't know off hand; but apparently it's different URL than from browser.

Also as I recall, I switched to using the Qt library handling for URLs because I couldn't make FFF's handling play nicely with editing across win/mac/lin.



Worked for me when I tested it just now. Without at least a storyURL, error message and (ideally) a debug log, I can't even look at it.



I don't read storiesonline.net, so I have to depend on what users tell me about it. If only one user speaks up, that's all I have. I don't even know if this is an issue for all stories viewed by all free accounts, or just some.

I forget which one(s), but at least one of the other supported non-fanfic sites has a similar issue--free accounts don't see all the text and/or chapters. And I believe we have a few other sites that only work with paid accounts.

The other practical option for this is to detect 'click to read more' and fail the download of that chapter - whether that also fails entire download depending on continue_on_chapter_error setting. I'm willing to do that--you'd get an error message and no text for that chapter at all instead of partial text.

If someone else wants to contribute code to work around the 'click to read more' that doesn't need a browser or javascript engine, I will probably accept it.

There's a whole 'nother tab in FFF settings for cover.

Plus there are specific settings on every download or update (under 'Show Download Options') for whether or not to update Calibre metadata and cover.

It sounds like you might like to turn those off by default--that's in the 'Defaults' section of the Basic tab of FFF settings.

I’ve found somewhere that says update Calibri cover from epub if it has a image but it’s not the fact I don’t want it to give me the cover I want the cover when it’s first been downloaded but if I’m updating it I wanted to keep the cover that i put on there because sometimes there’s not a name on the cover I just edit in a name but whenever I update it that cover is replaced with the old one and I don’t know where to change it I’ve looked


Edit is it default update EPUB cover when updating EPUB
Because that button isn’t ticked so I don’t think it’s that

Probably not possible to just cache the page by doing it manually, since the way the site does things is that the page the browser gets still has the buttons - most browsers AFAIK do not cache the calls a site does after the static data (HTML/css and images) has been downloaded.

TLDR; the version that the browser caches is the version with the "click me to load" buttons.

Your best bet is probably to fix the adapter in a way that is pretty slow in how it does things (so the site doesn't change itself in "self defence" again) and submit your changes to JimmXinu.

Nope, it's something this proxy generally needs because of some programming quirk.

I wrote this whole class to find Chrome version.
As far as I know, it should works everywhere.

So if you see it fail, could you open a issue on github?

Undetected_chromedriver always downloads the latest chromedriver unless you use the version. Should be no problem, but some versions of chromedriver are not compatible with some versions of chrome. Nsapa used one such version so initializes undetected_chromedriver with (back then) version 90 by default and uses the chrome-version parameter to override this default.
