It was about version 14 where the validation wizard became really good, and version 15 increased the speed of validation a lot...a "normal" font (with 10 or fewer contours per glyph) takes about 10 seconds for a 500 glyph font. Specialty fonts with more than 30 or so contours per glyph still take quite a long time.

You can often run two passes of the wizard with auto-fix on, and end up with very few manual fixes. The reason to run two is that the order of fixes means that pass one may fix multiple problems on a glyph that results in very minor problem remaining, but the fix for that kind of problem has already been run in that pass. So, the second pass cleans these up.

As I don't understand anything when people talk about the technical stuff behind a font, I have to ask if ChareInk7SP is fine to use now? Or should I just continue using ChareInk6SP for now?

The issue was with a typo in the height for the italic variant which has now been fixed. For me, I noticed the issue as soon as I tried the ChareInk7SP font with my tester ePub.

The typo cause a rather large line height when something was rendered in italics. When @DNSB pointed it out, I fixed it right away and I also fixed the non-breaking space to match that of the reduced space.

Charis SIL 7 (the original version) has kerning and hinting. So there was no need to add hinting or carry over the kerning. I did have to fix the internal naming and the line height metadata.
