Tanjamuse, it's working as intended for me, which appears to be what you describe above:

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13439127/1/ downloads with a cover, which is different than the author's picture, as expected.

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13430586/1/ downloads without a cover because it is the same as the author's pictures, again as expected.

If you got something different, then I suggest searching your personal.ini for errors or conflicting skip_author_cover settings.

I think I explained it wrong... I didn't want the cover image.

How can it be different from Authors image when it's the same one used for the author?

I think you may have the two backwards. I’m seeing exactly what I expect to see.

You can attach your epubs if you want to prove that you’re seeing something different.

Here are the epubs. I don't understand why the cover is there for:

Blush - Onebuttoneye

and not for:

Veterans Day Morning - Ecv

I thought that the image beside the title in the link was the author image?

Veteran's Day Morning doesn't have a cover because it doesn't have a separate story cover image that is different than the author's image and you have skip_author_cover:true. Functioning as designed, end of story.

What I don't understand is why you have a different cover image for Blush than the one I'm seeing on ffnet:

It looks like you have a cover from the Generate Cover plugin. In which case I would speculate that maybe you downloaded it before the author applied the cover image. With title page or log page in the epub, I don't know when you downloaded it.

I haven't added any covers to the epub. They are separate files.

I downloaded the story just a little over two hours ago, before I wrote the first time.

As there a two different categories - maybe you defined a cover_image in personal.ini for category "Buffy"?

Nope, there's only the one and that's not it. Besides I never embed the covers in the epubs.

This has nothing to do with bypassing copy protection.

I have an account with Baen, and some ebooks.

Being able to directly fetch epubs via Calibre, and have everything in one library, is a plus for me.

Are you talking about bar.baen.com ? The forums, which is a separate account from the main site (also that includes the free library).

To be honest, The Bar, has a slushpile (been there, read some good stuff, read some stuff that needed help - of which the barflies provided CONSTRUCTIVE support. Even bought a few of the finished product (not always sold by Baen) ), but I don't see scraping that in bulk as desirable (to the board operator).

What stops you from downloading the books from Baen and importing them into calibre? Certainly not DRM since Baen doesn't use DRM. Considering the changes that Baen makes now and then to their site, scripting the downloads would climbing on the Red Queen's racetrack (been there, done that and realized I was spending more time chasing changes than it would take to manually download and import the books to calibre).

Check the continual messages in the Recipes forum for more enlightenment.

And more or less finally, FFF is FanFicFare. Asking it to be a commercial site downloader is a bit beyond what it was designed for. If Baen gets added, what's next? Amazon? Kobo? Apple? Google?

I have books there, and there is also a free library of books that anyone can get.

There is an option to read online (but the font family choices ... lets just say that they ignore what I have my browser set to use. And font sizes don't work properly. And ... Etc. Why does no one actually pay attention to accessibility beyond "We know what your eyes want"?)

There are options to download the books. Or to have a kindle format emailed to me.

Since the point of Calibre seems to be to have a single master library of books with database functionality, instead of scattered files over my hard drive, I want to use that, as well as the CSS editing that I get with Calibre.

EDIT: Of course there's another message on the next page! :-)

What stops me from just importing into Calibre? One stop convenience, actually. Being able to have everything in one place, with all the URL's stored in the system database.

Well, if I like one, then someone else would like another. So why not?

Why not have a simple, single interface for everything?

It's not like Amazon, Apple, or Alphabet (Google) don't all have their own single interface for downloading programs, games, books, etc, where they sell you stuff for your devices, right?

This is just the same thing as a non-selling concept.

I'm not going to argue the philosophy of it with you. I do not plan to add support for commercial sites to FanFicFare.

I have no interest in anything that may bring legal attention. I refer you to this discussion last month.

FFF is an open source project. You are welcome to make your own copy and do what ever you want with it.
