Hmmm, I think the witches really come into their own in Maskerade and Carpe Jugulum.

FINISHED READING: Moneyball by Michael Lewis. If you are a baseball fan and have wondered how the Oakland A's seem to always have a winning season even though their payroll is one of the lowest in Major League Baseball, this book will lay it out for you.

CURRENTLY READING: Plum Island by Nelson DeMille. Having done work for Suffolk County, NY for the past two decades, this book really holds my interest due to DeMille's way of weaving local historical facts into his story.

ON DECK: The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown.

I remember Plum Island. In fact, several years ago, my husband and I listened to it in the car on the daily commute. If you like DeMille, also give In Country a look. I would never have considered a book about Vietnam to be interesting, but this was the pbook era, and I was desperate for something to read. Turned out to be one of those books I couldn't put down.

I think you mean 'Up Country'. In fact, i just downloaded that one to read.

And I can recommend both 'Night Fall' and 'Wild Fire'; both very good.

Check out Lion's Game if you haven't read that one. Excellent by DeMille. I'm currently reading Consent to Kill by Vince Flynn.

Currently Reading: Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom

by Cory Doctorow.

Interesting satire on our current society with some extrapolation of Web2. That it happens in Disney world makes it even more fun. Cory has offered --and still does-- the ebook version free http://craphound.com/down/download.php as he does with all of his books.

The ebook version isn't perfect format-wise, but it's quite readable.

If you'd only looked here on MobileRead, you'd have seen that I have formatted Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom in BBeB (LRF), Mobipocket (PRC), and IMP and it's better then what you've downloaded from Cory's site.

A back issue of Astounding, followed by a back issue of Asimov's until I get caught up. Who knew they gave you back issues when you signed up as well as this month's free issue?

Can you explain that? Does it take more energy to read a book you haven't read than one you have already read?

It can. A new book may mean a new author, as well as a new world, new cast of characters, and new style, tone, and outlook.

Getting into the new book can require more mental effort than re-reading a favored old title. Sometimes, you're tired, and in what an old friend described as a "comfortable old shoe" mode in your reading preference.
