LOL, I did my Higher English personal reading essay on Hogfather (much to my teacher's bewilderment - she didn't consider it 'literature') but was probably the only person in the class who actually enjoyed the work. Got a top score too.

Seriously, I would put Pratchett up with Wilde for someone you can read over and over again, and always find something new to appreciate (or at least laugh at).

Just finished Justina Robson's 'Living Next Door to the God of Love' which, despite the title, is actually pretty hard sci-fi - so much so that I think I'll probably have to read it again to really 'get it'. Her Quantum Gravity books were a lot more accessibly for a fantasy reader like me! (can recommend them too as a bit of fun with some interesting [but probably not new] ideas)

Okay, so last night I finished Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policemen's Union (an excellent book, by the way - genre-crossing and a snowballing read).

So, next up is, I am going to have to say, The Importance of Being Earnest (Oscar Wilde). It was meant to be The Speaking Land - Myth and Story in Aboriginal Australia but formulajay's enthusiasm and Queen Zee's inveigling charm have seduced me into the arms of Oscar.

Cheers,
Marc

One of Cleopatra's Nights by Gautier-

ps:to anyone wanting to read Carnacki the ghost finder-don't bother with "House among the laurels",its a shameless fake ghost story, whose "explanations" of the seemingly supernatural are as weak as in "The Necromancer" .

I just finished A Briefer History of Time by Stephen W. Hawking. For those who struggled with A Brief History of Time it is a Godsend.

Excellent. I hope you enjoy it as much as I. Michael Chabon may have made my "Read everything" list.

Have you also read Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe? I found its progress from classical physics up through to talking about superstring theory very good, helping capture some concepts I otherwise had difficulty grasping from other books and articles.

Cheers,
Marc
