Murder at the ABA sounds good too, thanks for the recommendation. i will have to look out for that... i wish Asimov had written more mysteries.
Zelda, where can I find the Black Widow series as ebooks? I've found Asimov SciFi novels but none of his mysteries.

I read lots of his SciFi stuff when I was younger but didn't know he'd done mysteries.

Thanks

Just finished King's Dragon [Crown of Stars Book 1] by Kate Elliott.

3.5 out of 5.

There are some obvious flaws and it is difficult to care about some of protagonists but the book improves towards the end and overall impression is OK.

Started to read Prince of Dogs [Crown of Stars Book 2].

I had great trouble getting into this series , glad to find you liked it - I'd be hard pressed to give it 1 ....

Do I have a choice?
I have bought a whole series hardbacks a couple of months before I bought Sony Reader. Now I absolutely must like it...or else...I wasted around 65 pounds!

I cannot say it is an outstanding series but it is OK, hopefully it doesn't get worse. I would definitely give it 3/5 but I am trying to be positive and give it 3.5/5
It is so much better than most of staff I have read lately. For example: crap such as American Gods(Neil Gaiman), The Shadow of the Torturer&The Claw of the Conciliator(Gene Wolfe) or just mediocre such as Black Man/13(Richard Morgan), Anubis Gates(Tim Powers), Perdido Street Station(China Mieville) that I am quite happy to immerse myself back into epic fantasy.

I bought the whole series in one go - wow did I regret that - still I gave them to a good home . Now for a good series , I would recommend the Sword of Truth - unfortunately not available in e-book format unless you can read German .
The Wheel of Time series started out good - but I found it became to repetitive and drawn out to enjoy it .

The Wheel of Time was the first fantasy series after LotR for me. I read it up to book 8 The Path of Daggers (didn't like the last one but enjoyed the first 7 a lot). Then there were no more books in the series and I am waiting now for the last one to come out. That's when I have decided never again to start reading a series that has not been finished.

The Sword of Truth - I am going to give it a try...but the incredible huge number of negative opinions about it on fantasy forums do not make me very optimistic. I think the most famous examples are when a protagonist kicks a 7 years old girl and breaks her jaw and he doesn't feel bad about it and another is that there is only black and white, nothing in between (life is different)...but maybe I am confusing it with something else

Yes , the kicking of the 7 year old is very harsh - by the main male character too - and there are some quite sadistic story-lines elsewhere .
Not too sure about the black & white aspect , but in many ways it is a rather compelling story good/evil & it's a love story too .

Reading Orhan Pamuk's "Snow"

I read an earlier book of his (The Black Book) right after he won the Nobel Prize in Literature and found the philosophical musings of his characters and the narrative power of his writing to be extraordinary.

Pamuk, a Turkish writer, seems to explore different genres in his writing as he explores the religious and political narratives of our [his] times.

There is a certain "humanity" to his writing, as he informs his readers of all types of suffering.

I'm only on screen () 60 of this novel, but I find myself continually captivated by his writing. He writes with conviction and power.

This is a literary novel, and one that some readers here might also find interesting.

Don

NOTE: Purchased from Sony
