A Kindle "mode" is in the works, it'll be in the next version (2.2). Sorry, but I couldn't find the time to include it in 2.1 ...

I've been trying to work out a simple solution for Kindles and javascript-less browsers since I've been informed of this problem a while ago, but I didn't find any.

The only solution that will work is a complex one that requires rewriting a good half of calibre2opds. But I'll do it, promised !

All best,
David.

I just tested Dropbox+calibre2opds+Kindle2 with my 300-book-loaded calibre. The catalogue looked quite nice on the Kindle. However because Kindle's basic web browser can't process java-scripted download links, I couldn’t download anything. When I click on the link the page just reloads, nothing else.

It would be really nice to have some options to control availability of JavaScript in download link. Ex) when you set the option, download links are listed as text.
Hi,

As I said, I did take a long time to think about it and find a nice way of generating a javascript-less HTML catalog, but I couldn't find one.

I found out that the Kindle browser is actually advertised as a javascript-capable browser :
Your Kindle comes with an Experimental application called Basic Web, which is a Web browser optimized to read websites that are primarily text-based. It supports JavaScript, SSL and cookies but does not support media plug-ins (Flash, Shockwave, etc.) or Java applets.
and
Use Advanced Mode: This mode squeezes pages down to fit the width of the Kindle screen. In this mode, JavaScript can also be enabled.
However, I don't own a Kindle (donations accepted ) so I can't test the extents of the experimental browser's javascript support.

Would you accept to become a priviledged beta-tester for the upcoming Kindle support ?

Please send me an email !
David.

Bug in Stanza and Calibre2Opds

Hi folks,

This week-end, I spent time investingating an evasive bug in Calibre2Opds, only to find out that it was in fact a Stanza bug.
Here it is : when no cover exist for a book, Calibre2Opds wrongly generates a thumbnail link (while it should not), and Stanza fails to display it ; this is normal. What's wrong is that Stanza is then not able to download the ePub file itself...
This is a known Stanza bug, and they'll correct it in the next release.
I'll release a fixed version of Calibre2Opds ASAP, but it may not be quick enough for everyone.
So, until then, simply ensure that you have covers on all your books (a default cover.jpg file will be enough).

All best,
David.

Looks like Aldiko is having problems downloading OTA after the new update. The downloads fail (but only in Aldiko).
Any ideas?

Another problem that seems to have come up. Has the new Calibre broken Calibre2OPDS? I can't seem to get past the first item in the generation process.

Working fine here (on Windows 7). I would suspect that it might be a metadata problem of some sort.

There's always the risk that Kovid break compatibility by radically changing the database structure, but I don't think he'll do this...
Could you email me your metadata.db file, or a link to it, so I can check, please ?

I had a look at your database and found a bug in my code. When a book has no author ("Maiden's Love" in your library) the code crashes, although it should continue working.
The bug has been reported and will be corrected in the next release.
Until then, I suggest you add at least a dummy author to your books that have none.

All best,
David.

Hello, sorry for a retarded response. I was away from home a lot. I will be for a couple of weeks too. But I am happy to be a beta or alpha tester for a kindle supported version.

However, I am very well aware of the Javascript capability and Advanced mode of Kindle browser, and I am quite sure it does not work with current release. Actually, that was the first thing I checked.

I will PM you my email address, in case you don't have it anymore. If you need something please email me - that would be fastest - than I will report back here ASAP. Due to current work environment, I tend to check email a lot, but not surf around much, these days.
