I'd really like to do this, but the Boroda page doesn't mention the PRS-650. Is this firmware supposed to work on all Sony models, including the 650?

And right here on this page I see a post by someone who tried flashing their 650 and it didn't work. Was that with the same firmware you're recommending here? Will you please be a bit clearer about this?

I followed exactly this instruction. Now, having the firmware flashed, I got polish characters. Anyway, the polish characters are droid (or georgia, or whatever I set in the userStyle.css), but all the other characters are always Sony Default.
Why...?

Are you looking at the right page? It should be this one. Use Google translate to see it in your language of choice.

There is a different Boroda firmware for each of the 4 models: PRS350, PRS650 plus two for PRS950 (depending on current firmware version).

If you want an answer to this question I think you need to provide more information. I suggest 3 items:
- your userStyle.css file
- a sample source book (or small piece of the book)
and if you converted the source to epub
- the non-working epub after conversion

jackie - the problem exists independently on the selected font, also with the standard (for a "russified" version) userStyle.css file.
As to the books - it exists in all my books. Here is one:

@grissley - I loaded your epub on my PRS650. I have attached a screencap of one of the pages. It appears to be displaying OK in the correct font (Charis SIL) that I have set up in my customised epub/userStyle.css file. Although I don't speak any Polish, to check that Polish chars are as expected

Is the following what you mean by the standard (for a "russified" version) userStyle.css file?

Code:
@font-face {
  font-family: -ua-default;
  font-weight: normal;
  font-style: normal;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/droid/DroidSerif-Regular.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: -ua-default;
  font-weight: bold;
  font-style: normal;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/droid/DroidSerif-Bold.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: -ua-default;
  font-weight: normal;
  font-style: italic;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/droid/DroidSerif-Italic.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: -ua-default;
  font-weight: bold;
  font-style: italic;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/droid/DroidSerif-BoldItalic.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: "sans-serif1";
  src:url(res:///opt/sony/ebook/FONT/tt0003m_.ttf);
}

h1 {
  font-family: sans-serif1, sans-serif;
}
If so, the references to
Code:
font-family: -ua-default;
are not familiar to me. Mine all have this in its place
Code:
font-family: serif;
Also add
Code:
html {font-family: serif;}
after the last @font-face {...} statement and before the h1 {...} statement.

yes - I got "-ua-default" as a font family.
I'll try with "serif" tomorrow.

And that's the solution - stupid me, should've thought about this myself

EDIT
I'm not very familiar with the "karma" thing - I think I've added you sth

Hi everybody,

Okay, I've successfully flashed my firmware, created font folders in my 'epub' folder, and uploaded the corresponding font sets to them. But I'm still confused about editing UserStyle.css.

I got the Droid font working with this UserStyle.css:

Code:
@font-face {
font-family: DroidSerif;
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;
src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/droid/DroidSerif-Regular.ttf);
}

@font-face {
font-family: DroidSerif;
font-weight: bold;
font-style: normal;
src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/droid/DroidSerif-Bold.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: DroidSerif;
  font-weight: normal;
  font-style: italic;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/droid/DroidSerif-Italic.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: DroidSerif;
  font-weight: bold;
  font-style: italic;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/droid/DroidSerif-BoldItalic.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: "sans-serif1";
  src:url(res:///opt/sony/ebook/FONT/tt0003m_.ttf);
}

h1 {
  font-family: sans-serif1, sans-serif;
}
body {
  font-family: DroidSerif;
}
But I'd rather use a different font—for example, Georgia. I've tried using the exact same CSS format, substituting "Georgia" for the font name, and case-sensitive "georgia" to match the folder name and filenames:

Code:
@font-face {
  font-family: Georgia;
  font-weight: normal;
  font-style: normal;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/georgia/georgia.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: Georgia;
  font-weight: bold;
  font-style: normal;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/georgia/georgiab.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: Georgia;
  font-weight: normal;
  font-style: italic;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/georgia/georgiai.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: Georgia;
  font-weight: bold;
  font-style: italic;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/georgia/georgiaz.ttf);
}

@font-face {
  font-family: "sans-serif1";
  src:url(res:///opt/sony/ebook/FONT/tt0003m_.ttf);
}

h1 {
  font-family: sans-serif1, sans-serif;
}
body {
  font-family: Georgia;
}
...and the Reader reverts to the lame Sony body font. Why?

Also, if the firmware flash adds a "userStyle.droid.css" file, don't we have to add a file like that for other fonts? Or does only Droid require it for some reason?

Finally, how do you change the font size? Since this is CSS, I imagined you could just add a "font-size" entry to the "body" section:

Code:
body {
  font-family: DroidSerif;
  font-size: 10pt;
}
But this has no effect.

Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, Sony doesn't allow you to select which of the three fonts to use for reading. I prefer sans-serif, which requires either a modification of the device or a modification of the ebook. Unlike the Kindle, which does allow you to select which of the three fonts to use for reading.

I've used the exact same format with Droid (which didn't work following the flash—isn't it supposed to?), Georgia, and Verdana, but the lame Sony font continues to appear.

Also, if the firmware flash adds a "userStyle.droid.css" file on the Reader, don't we have to add a corresponding file for each other font? Or does only Droid require it for some reason?

Here's my UserStyle.css below. Will you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Code:

  font-weight: normal;
  font-style: normal;
  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/cambria/cambria.ttf);

  src: url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/cambria/cambriaz.ttf);

}

h1 {
  font-family: "sans-serif1, sans-serif;"
}

body {
	font-family: "Cambria";
}
ander111 - this is the code I use, in case this helps. I include both the font family name and font style (sans-serif) in the body tag. Don't know if that makes a difference.

@font-face {
font-family: "Fontin";
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;
src: url(res:///Data/fonts/Fontin_Sans_R_45b.otf);
}

}
@font-face {
font-family: "Fontin";
font-weight: normal;
font-style: italic;
src: url(res:///Data/fonts/Fontin_Sans_I_45b.otf);
}
@font-face {
font-family: "Fontin";
font-weight: bold;
font-style: italic;
src: url(res:///Data/fonts/Fontin_Sans_BI_45b.otf);
}
body {
font-family: "Fontin", sans-serif;
}

change all this to:

Code:
font-family: serif;
Then, add

Code:
html {font-family: serif;}
after the last @font-face {...} statement and before the h1 {...} statement.

should work
