Hi Beowulf,
BookIt used to open calibre after conversion, now it seems to convert in the background, which is nice, too. But I miss some kind of feedback after a successful conversion. Because of the Unicode-Issue I can never be sure wheter my conversion worked or not, so this would be really nice. Of course, I could also keep calibre open at all time to check manually, so it is not absolutely crucial. But it would be nice. Cheers, jo. PS: I now bought a second-hand PRS-500 so I can take full advantage of BookIt and calibre. I guess I could say it was your and Kovid's work that conviced me to do so. Your work and the incredibly long shipping process for my Hanlin, which I will use as a secondary device until there will be epub support in your apps. |

I can see that, in the next drop and I'll an option to launch calibre after adding the book. Shouldn't be that hard.
I'll keep working on the unicode issues and see if I can lock it down. Don't give me too much credit, I'm just adding a wrapper to kovid's hard work. Once his epub support is working I'll look at adding it to the plugin. Theorectically it should be as simple as calling web2epub instead of web2lrf. |

Your work on this is just great! I'm not the only one who thinks so, either...over 4,000 reads of this thread!

Why didn't I mention this in my last post? Man I'm too confused these days.
BookIt now does create eBooks with Chinese titles. I guess it does so since the last update, but I only noticed yesterday. But it seems to take a lot more time for conversion now, mostly far more than one minute for a simple article (maybe about two A4 pages). And German umlauts are not shown correctly in titles, but at least the books will be created. Filenames are correct. Great work, Cheers, jo. PS: Has anyone else had problems with calibre lately? Sice the last update it won't open the viewer anymore. Strange. (I already created a ticket for this problem.) |

Lack of Response
For some reason, I'm not getting anywhere with the latest version. I've installed the latest Calibre complete with the calibre.db file and confirmed the path to it is correct in the plugin preferences, but nothing seems to be happening when I try to run the plugin on a web page. I temporarily get an hourglass, but even with Calibre open, no new content appears.

Hmm, that's weird. Can you double check the path to calibredb and make sure it's correct? It's not a path to the database file but to the calibredb executable. Also, try it on a very simple web page that only has english characters. Can you see if the file is being created in your output directory? If so then it's an issue adding to the db and not creating the file.
I'm going to be gone all day but will check back when I get in tonight. I just had an idea on how to get debugging output, I'll try to add that feature tomorrow along with another requested feature tomorrow and see if that helps any. |

Hi,
I am a happy owner of a PRS 500 now and so I finally can start to really take advantage of your great plugin. Just wanted to ask if there's anything new that you and Kovid might have worked out for the metadata compability issue between BookIt and Calibre (tags/comments/category etc.)? Cheers, jo. Last edited by jotheman; 06-30-2008 at 06:44 PM. Reason: spellt Calibre wrong. Doh. |

Beowolf...the plugin is doing just fine on my other computer, so it's just something I need to adjust/correct on the one that it's not working on. It's definitely something on my end, and I'll find it.
Lovin' the plugin! |

Good, I was just going to pm you to see if you had resolved your issues.
For a quick way to compare your settings, in the firefox address bar type 'about:config', then in the filter type 'bookit' (minus quotes). This will show you all of the preferences. |

Fan Mail
I just found a fairly long article on sharpening fishing hooks, bigger than I cared to read online, so dragged a selection, right-clicked, and chose "Selection to lrf." It created an absolutely letter-perfect, clean layout for Sony Reader! So grateful for this plugin. I did notice the illustrations (also selected) weren't in the lrf, though I imagine that's probably just something in the converter Bookit calls upon.

Cool, glad to hear that. I did you get it working on your other machine?
If you can send me the link you are using, I can take a look at it and see why it wasn't working. I'm literally just using the selected html, which works most of the time but does break when it depends upon a css file or base attribute in the outer document. |

On Bookit 0.3.8 (using Firefox 3.0 on XP) I am having trouble getting my margins to save in the options. Whenever I click ok, then go back to options, they have all reverted back to 0.

I see it, I'll take a look at it. Unfortunately I'm in full on crisis mode with a software release at work right now, so it may be another day or two before I can push something out.
