Purchase/use of the Kindle gives them the right to store your annotations on their servers. Nowhere in the TOS does it say that right vanishes when the book is deleted.

If I could, I would go on Amazon and buy every pirate book I could find. Sit back a few days, and then report them as pirate versions.

Seems like a great investment

For some reason, The Orwell Incident greatly reminds me of something from early speculative/science fiction, but I can't quite place it, or possibly an Ambrose Bierce story.

Except that this wasn't about stolen property, and Amazon isn't the police.

emellaich,

This whole thing seems rather Orwellian to me;

First-- Ref: delete unBook *Orwell* ALL.
Then-- Ref: retore Book *Orwell* SOME.

Does it bother anyone that they Copied what they deleted from their costomer's Kindles? Why would they copy anyone's notes?

I'm glad that you are happy with your Kindle, but nobody can get into my stuff without my permission, or stealing my hardware (I have an iRex DR1000s and an Astak EZReader, and I'm quite happy with them).

(Next day)
I woke up in the middle of the night with the realization that Amazon hadn't copied anything--they had merely removed the filename from the directory (like on any other computer; Duh!). As long as the file's space had not been overwritten, the file could be easily and completely restored. I couldn't understand why they would bother...

Still I don't like the idea of anyone having such access and potential control of my files.
