Just finished Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. Enjoyable but "Anansi Boys" is still by far my favourite of his. Now starting Living Dead in Dallas which, due to a PID error I didn't get to read when I was reading the rest of them on my vacation in April. Then its on to Hamlet and The Tale of Edgar Sawtelle which, while I read the former many moons ago, I decided to read consecutively for better recognition of parallels. Mel |

9/50 in my summer reading challenge. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. I loved her other book. This one, I would not recommend. Bleak, mean, unsympathetic women. Men who are either spineless trod-upons or manipulative cads. The whole book was just one miserable person abusing another miserable person until it ended. Blah. Her other book had 'troubled' characters too, but they felt more sympathetic to me. This book just made me depressed and uncomfortable. Onto lighter fare for my next read!

I took a break from Her Wiccan, Wiccan Ways (the slumber party scene stumped me for a bit), and read Weapons of Choice by John Birmingham. Weapons is a really enjoyable read if you're into somewhat futuristic military action, and political machinations, not to mention a serious clash of cultures. Now I'm back to Wiccan and determined finish it.

Still on my H Rider Haggard binge, interspersed with the odd book on changing how I think about things. About to start Perdido Street Station by China Mieville for another book club

10.50 'World of the Sex Gates' by Darrel Bain and a co-writer whose name escapes me. It was dreadful. The 'sex' in the title referred to the premise of Book 1, which was magic gates that changed people's gender. By the time we got to Book 3, it was pretty much pure smut. Every plot development seemed to inspire the main characters to want to do it, with as many others as they could. Blah.

Just finished the first three books in the Elm Creek Quilts series by Jennifer Chiaverini. She manages to combine quilt themed stories with personal lives of many different characters. The central theme of quilters groups being a huge support chain, whether local or cross country stands true. Outstanding series, recommended whether you quilt or not. As an added bonus, you can go online to see the quilts she talks about. |

Read the first book of the Delver Magic series by Jeff Inlo. Free Books. They are very good. Now into the 2nd book. Am enjoying every moment. I try to toss up the genre's a bit. Finished reading Lee Child "Die Trying" and the "Killing Floor". Listened on Audible to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Also "The Alchemyst", "The Magican", and just bought "The Sorceress" today! All great so far! |
