On my iPod Touch, I am reading the Wicked series by Gregory MacGuire. I read the first one in paperback years ago but am reading it fresh on the iPod so I will be able to go through the whole series seamlessly. On my Sony, I am reading the wonderful Sherlock Holmes omnibus posted here. I have actually downloaded a few omnibus collections of other authors and hope to read those too. I am taking breaks and reading some Fictionwise mysteries and some poetry here and there. I want to get through all of Shakespeare's sonnets once and for all! |

Finished reading The Professor and the Madman. This books in the story of the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary. It was an interesting tail and gave information about the OED that I had no idea about. Started reading Berserker by Steven Jordan... so far so good. Still listening to The Curse of Chalion on audio book. This is an ok story that passes the time while I am walking. But, basically just OK at this point. BOb |

When I was on vacation, I read way too much, but my favorite was "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" by Agatha Christie. It was on my 1001 list. And no, I had no idea about the ending, which made the book totally awesome |

Just reading Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey and I really like the images in HarryT's version. For some reason I had not read the Bath novels yet and since I am going to visit Bath a day the week after Easter I thought it was time to prepare for the visit...

Currently reading Apprenticeship in Thinking by Barbara Rogoff (paper) and another text by her as PDF, and just finished re-reading Soul Music by Terry Pratchet (ebook). I recently re-read Hogfather, so I might jump ahead to Thief of Time if I get to take a break later on tonight. And, of course, there was a new page of Girl Genius up today. |

I found and read a book that was surprisingly good. It was a free book on Amazon called :"Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Written by Herself" by Jacobs, Harriet Ann, 1813-1897. Was very touching and a surprisingly fast read.

Just finished a History of the Indian Mutiny (by Saul David) on my PRS-505. Really facinating stuff and with some lessons for us nowadays. Probably moving on to Tolstoy's 'Childhood' and 'Boyhood' next - love Russian writers (btw, if anybody knows where I can get Gorky's 3-part autobiography as a public domain download, i'd be eternally grateful!). |

Among the turmoil about it in France & elsewhere, I think eveybody missed an obvious (to me) source --and a great book per se-- "Kaputt" by Kurzio Malaparte. Actual souvenirs of an italian War Correspondent on the eastern front during WWII--so: from the German side; Highly recommended. (of course, the Concentration camps are not present in Malaparte). The next book I am going to finish is By Order of the President by W. E. B. Griffin. It's quite good if you like political mysteries.
