I don't know if that was happening before also.

I use 'Modify ePub' plugin as the last step in a series of things I do when I'm preparing an epub for reading.
The settings are in the snapshot.

When there is any file (html, jpeg ...) inside the epub, with a space in its filename, the plugin will remove it.
Any ideas for avoiding this?

TIA
It would seem that for some reason Modify ePub sees those as unmanifested files and removes them per your setting. Are these unmanifested?

The bug is in the "Remove unmanifested files from ePub" option. With that checked, Modify ePub will remove files with a space int he filename. Generally, spaces are not a good idea to use in ePub filenames.

I use Sigil for editing, so I don't get that warning.
Is there a way for Sigil to automatically replace 'spaces' with 'underscores' in the filenames?
..Or Calibre (since I first reconvert them to clean up some code)

FlightCrew in Sigil says that the IDs of the files in the 'content.opf' are invalid because they are written with underscores instead of spaces.
So the answer is yes, I suppose.
Its not the plugin's error after all.

Thanks for the answers.

My PEz (older MRSDK) will not 'bookmark' (usably) if there are spaces in the filename(s)
Under_scores or MixedCase always works for me.

BTW I have probably use the Bookmark all of 10 times since 2010

That's not a part of the plugin that I touched in making the 1.3.11 version, so it would be an older bug. Not having the code in front of me, I'm going to guess that URL encoding plays a role; "index 1.html" and "index%201.html" are not the same string. That would explain why the files show up as unmanifested.

As a workaround, I'd advise unchecking the "remove unmanifested" option for your initial pass. After that, open the book in calibre's editor and change any bad filenames there. Using "Check book" will alert you to any unused files (which is a pretty rare thing, at least in my experience) and give you an opportunity to deal with them.

Would you like to have a go at trying to fix this bug?

Not particularly. As I haven't dealt with that section of the code, I have no special experience to contribute.

Would this idea be any easier? I was thinking that code could be written to fix the filenames with spaces by replacing the space with an underscore before any of the other routines are run and then the rest of the code can work on the ePub without this bug cropping up as the affected filenames will have been fixed. The filenames would have to be fixed wherever they are found. and if a %20 is in place of a space, it too would have to be fixed. if this isn't something you want to do or feel you can do, we'll either have to wait for Kiwi to return or someone else to take on the job.

What part of "I haven't dealt with that section of the code" was unclear? I took a brief look at it before sending that reply; there are several interdependencies that I'm not familiar with; a fix is not as simple as you seem to believe.

It's not something I have the inclination or time to do at this point. If someone else wants to take it up...well, I can't really grant permission, as I'm not the keeper of the code, but I don't object.

That's why I came up with another suggestion that might or might not be feasible.

The answer is still NO, and the more you argue with me about it, the less likely I am to ever reconsider.

@JSWolf,

It might help if you think of it this way:

Rev. Bob had one contribution to make to this plugin, and now officially has nothing whatsoever to do with it. Just because someone once helps you, does not put them under any obligation to help you again.

Stop demanding things of people who have no reason to give them. Either that, or buzz off. Or invent a mind-control machine that enables you to force people to do things that you think they should do.\

Any way you slice it, Rev. Bob still has no interest in doing anything (unless he spontaneously decides to, which I guarantee will happen or not happen with absolutely zero consultation of your opinions).

  1. "figure of speech"
  2. Jon demands lots of things, from lots of people, all over the place. I now assume by default that everything he says is a demand, he strikes me as that type of person. Yes, being pushy about it is also a demand -- just not verbalized as such.

And don't misquote me. I said
Quote:
Stop demanding things of people who have no reason to give them.
I have followed my dictates; I have demanded the right to be left alone, for myself so I don't keep having to filter out drivel in order to keep an eye on news in the calibre-plugin world, and on behalf of someone who has more gently expressed his desire to be left alone.

"Stop demanding things of people ..." != "Stop demanding things of people [qualifications]"
