The v1.6.3 modified the books without an issue. I'm going to attach a scrambled version of one of the books to this message. The scrambled version also failed when I tried with v1.6.2 which may or may not help with locating the cause of this issue. Both the books were converted from the original format using calibre.

To all it concerns ...

Calibre means so much to me. After the loss of my son, I turned to ebooks as a means to heal and bring some joy into my life.

Today, after much time and effort organizing my Calibre library, I intended to load my books on a new device using a different app. Luckily, I stumbled upon this thread before doing so. Out of approx. 2500 books, only 400 passed the quality checks.

After using the modify epub plugin, they pass every check. They are liberated, yeah! It seems I fall more in love with Calibre every day

Your knowledge, dedication, selflessness, love for books, and your ability to work together for a common good ... is appreciated more than my words can express. Thank you

I'm attaching a slightly modified version of that scrambled book. Can you tell me if 1.6.2 handles it correctly? If so, I'll mention what I changed; if not, it's not relevant and would only clutter the discussion.

I didn't forget; I just didn't remember that I needed to hit the manual "upload" button in the dialog. Fixed now.

Hmm. Okay, well, glad to see the problem wasn’t as simple as I suspected it might have been.

For the record, although I don’t use that feature myself, I’ve updated to 1.6.3 and seen no issues.

I noticed a couple of problems when work with epub3.
1. Plugin removes xml header from .opf file and some other files with no reason
This one: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>

2. Remove non-dc metadata elements is my favorite setting, but in epub3 we got some reserved properties (epub3 spec) which is not just personal garbage but related to book itself. I'm talking about meta for store Series name and index:
belongs-to-collection (for Series Name)
group-position (for Series Index)
collection-type (type Series or Set)
And Calibre use these three fields when convert to epub3 to store Series name and index.

Making the plugin epub3 aware isn't something I am interested in doing. If someone else is willing then I am happy to "release" (add to first post) new versions.

Out of curiosity, is v1.6.3 going to make it to the first post? I've been using it since it was posted but a new calibre install said v1.6.2 was the latest.

Would removing drop caps be a reasonable function to include in this plugin?

Nope. There's no way to automatically know what is a drop cap. This is something that has to be done in the editor.

De-obfuscate fonts

First, thanks for all the work you've done on this plugin. It has saved me countless hours of manual work.

I was wondering if a font de-obfuscation feature could be added to this plugin. I use a Supernote A5X, which somehow doesn't support obfuscated fonts (even though it's pretty common to find EPUBs with obfuscated fonts). My current workflow is to export from Calibre and then de-obfuscate with Sigil before copying the EPUB onto my Supernote but it would be nice to do it all in Calibre.

I'm sort of surprised it's not in calibre itself, but meantime you can access Sigil from Calibre via its Open With feature, see ==>> Configuring and using Calibre's built in Open With - MobileRead Forums
