Comparing wih overdrive console.
Today I downloaded the Overdrive Media Console out of curiosity. I immediately used it to take out a public library media book. Up to this point I loved it. I have to say download process was definitely superior to Bluefirereader. The integration with the web browser and what felt like an integrated process was preferable to the icab etc... method I've been using with bluefirereader. However then you get to the actual reader. No comparison. Doesn't even come close to the quality and ease of BLUEFIREREADER. So now a question. Is there a way to use bluefire to read books I've downloaded o my iPad using the overdrive console or how about integrating a the browser / download for public libraries better and avoiding the icab workaround? |

Try going to this blog, "Pigs, Gourds and Wikis" and take a look at this thread:
http://www.pigsgourdsandwikis.com/20...-bluefire.html This article has steps to create a bookmarklet in Safari. Just follow the steps. After you install it, you'll be able to download your library books right into Bluefire [from the library book download page]. As long as your BlueFire reader is authorized by Adobe, it works great. Well. it does for me. Oh, and if you know the steps and just want the script, it is here: http://www.elizabethcastro.com/epub/BluefireLink.html I got this from upthread ... just thought I'd bring it out again... |

Yeah, I like Bluefire over Overdrive for the ability to return books early. I, too, tried Overdrive ... but it doesn't have that function (or, at least I can't find it). I was thrilled to find out about this bookmarklet.
Glad it helped. |

In the BlueFire app:
1) Open the book 2) Once the book opens, select the "Bookmarks" icon (at the bottom/center of screen) 3) Once that opens, select "Item Info" which is the left-hand icon in the top center row 4) Once THAT opens, select "Return Item" button in the middle of the screen It'll send your book back (well, at least the PDFs and epubs, that I know of). And, it's almost instantaneous, as I've gone to the library web site right after sending the books back and yep, they're not checked out any longer. Hope this helps. |

I am a new user of Bluefire Reader. Just discovered today an amazing feature which I have been craving for so long from iBooks - embedded fonts in ePub. I'd love to see following in the reader:
1. Collections (I have so many books and screenplays that this is a must feature.) 2. Cloud based syncing of bookmarks, notes and collections. Please do plan this in the near future. |

Thanks so much to the creators of this fantastic program!
I bought a gazillian books from the Sony ebook store over the last few years, and thought that I'd lost my investment when I switched to an iPad. I've now transferred all of them to the iPad via Bluefire and they open perfectly. Thank you - thank you!!!! |

I also love Bluefire.
I don't suppose there are any public libraries that allow you to register even if you don't live there? Even if I pay a bit? My local library doesn't have a great selection ![]() |

Check with other libraries in your state. For example, in Ohio, all Ohio residents can pretty much get a library card from any of the library systems in the state. There is also a State Library of Ohio which you can sign up for online and they'll send you the card through the mail.

In my library system, it's about $90 for an out-of-area library card.
Just as a side note, if you are using Adobe Digital to get the books, you can return the ebook from it as well. From site... "How do I return Adobe eBooks early? Adobe eBooks can only be returned early using Adobe Digital Editions. To return Adobe eBooks early… Open Adobe Digital Editions. Select the 'Library View' icon (in the upper left corner). The Adobe Digital Editions library is displayed. Under the 'Bookshelves' heading, select 'Borrowed'. Click the eBook you want to return. Click the 'Item Options' arrow (in the upper left corner of the selected eBook). Select 'Return Borrowed Item'. Click 'Return' to verify that you want to return the title. The eBook is returned. I'm in the UK unfortunately.
Did check the Philadelphia free library but couldn't see any ebooks? What's your library Svea? I'd pay $90 for a membership if I could download ebooks. |
