Usually made out of paper, all sheets sewn/glued together along one side.

Hi guys, I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but I would like to know if this work around would work with a PW2 at 5.4.0? I've heard some bad things about 5.4.2, and I'm not sure if BDL works with the PW2.

Also, if this workaround does work for the PW2, do I have to have the update.bin.tmp.partial file already there THEN delete it then add the directory? Or can I just go ahead and make the directory without having the file there beforehand?

I don't have anything against KUAL or anything, but I think I'm not advanced enough for the jailbreaking just yet

Is this method tested and considered safe? I mean, it is definitely simpler than BDL.

On a side note, if Amazon decides to suddenly change the file name this will fail. Would BDL as well?

as would the Amazon update downloader.

How would the update downloader identify the file if the name where changed?

Well they would have to install a system image with those changes made, before they could be used.
But you have the system image downloads blocked.

quick question - do I have to remove this file temporarily when I apply various JB bins to the PW2 or does this file only block amazon's fw updater process.

The method invented by richy1989 seems to work with KP2 (5.4.0). Today it saved me from the automatic update to 5.4.2. So use it with your brand new Kindle because we may assume that some future firmware update – maybe even 5.4.2 – will disable that.

How is a future firmware update going to disable anything when you have future firmware updates blocked ?
Duh....

Just create a ***directory*** named: update.bin.tmp.partial in the top most level of what you see over USB storage.
Exact name, case matters, no extension other than that show above.

My point was:

1) Today I locked my Kindle against the future firmware updates with richy1989’s method and that saved me from the today’s automatic update.

2) The future updates of the firmware released by Amazon (maybe even 5.4.2) may disable that method of locking the device against the updates in the case of the other people’s devices if they don’t use that method to lock their devices earlier.

So:

1) I reported that richy1989’s method works with PW2 (5.4.0).

2) I advised the other people to use this method before it’ll be too late.

Duh...

(Was it so hard to read and understand three sentences from my previous post?)
