sweet - I'm about half an hour from East Midlands Airport, with a bit of luck I'll get it tomorrow ('cept I'll be at work )

leaving work for home now on the off chance it gets here this afternoon

EDIT

£58.32 customs charges paid - reader will be delivered tomorrow, I can ring at 8am and they should be able to tell me an approximate time...hopefully it'll be afternoon so I can skip off work early, otherwise I can get them to deliver to me at work on Friday (they need to make 1 failed elivery attempt before I can specify another address).

Hi Everyone:
I friend of mine brought me a Sony Reader from N.Y. It does what it said in the tin. I was not expecting a good display for PDF files but I have reformated some of my documents. It is a size problem. Overall, it is an impressive machine, looks reliable and compact. I am really HAPPY and I think that this machine opens the e-book market.

I would have love to buya Iliad but the price put me off and a really bad marketing campaing since they started to sell the product. I hope that their new model has less features (affordable price) and totally focus on the consumer (B2C), they are getting much better. I really admire their spirit in having a direct communication with their community and in this web site and the chance for developers to make an input. Really hope that the new model in JUNE is an exit.

My last point is about the future. I think PLASTIC LOGIC will be the winner when they realese their models in 2008 (a A4 model and able to fold is a MUST HAVE)

Thank you to all of you for the comments, tools and book uploads in this forum.

Eek, £58 quid on a £200 import seems excessive. Bought mine last week from B&H and should be delivered Tuesday - wish I had ordered it a day earlier and I could have played with it over the may day weekend

What pushes it up is the "processing fee" that the courier company charges you for paying all the taxes on your behalf. That can be more than the actual taxes themselves!

whoa! I was also about to comment on the excessive tax as well, hope they threw a little something extra in it for you to soften the blow! At the current exchange rate, that's $115 USD... doh! Though I think that £200 sticker price is a bit high, it should be ~ £175 to be the MSRP of $350 USD. Did something happen?

I used paypal and got an exhcnage rate of 1.95 dollars to my pound.

reader cost $349, postage was $44 = total = $393 = £201.53

customs cost £58.32 so total cost was £259.85, and I spent $46 of my complimentary $50 voucher at my first perusal of the Connect store so taking that into account, my Reader (including my ebooks) cost me £236.27

I'd imagine that if Sony ever decides to release the Reader in the UK it'll cost more than £236 to buy one.

Just as a point of curiosity, what do y'all pay for a loaf of bread over there these days?

I think we pay about $1.50/£0.75/€1.10 (at present exchange rates), and I'm wondering how that compares ....
