I'm a bit confused about UPS Tracking. Why they don't sort it chronological? Why is Maspeth (07/10) listed between Philadelphia and Cologne (both 07/11)?

Best Regards

Keine Angst - das ist normal.

Das liegt daran, dass UPS (oder vielleicht auch bhphotoviedeo.. .aber das glaub ich weniger) die Daten, die der dt. Zoll braucht schon vorher nach Köln faxen.

Es laufen also zwei Prozesse parallel:
(1) Transport des Pakets
(2) Zollabwicklung

Wenn die Zollabwicklung fertig und Dein Paket in Köln angekommen ist läuft's wieder "in eins" weiter.

What does in "IN TRANSIT TO" mean? Is the unit in transit to Cologne or to me?

In Transit heißt einfach nur, dass dein Paket gerade durch die Gegend gefahren wird.

Wenn's zu Dir unterwegs ist steht "out for delivery" da.

nun ist es durch den Zoll durch und "in transit for delivery"

not it passed through the customs and is "in transit for delivery"

EDIT: I'm just silly. When I go to ups.de instead of ups.com I get the Tracking-Infos in German

Problem from sony reader

Hello,

I have ordered the SONY reader PRS500 from europe, through B&H photo (actually this was a gift). It worked great and I really liked it.

3 months and 3 days later, the screen stopped working (white and black areas starting from a central point, no physical damage on the surface!!, no mishandling between the time it worked properly and the time it ceased to work).

Sony europe does not take in charge customer support and repairs for a product bought in the US. B&H does not help. Sony US wants an address and a phone in the US and does not want to send the device back to europe. This is not helpfull... Anyway, I have found a contact in the US, and I sent the broken PRS500 to them with this contact.

Now, they say that I must pay $272 to repair it (does not include shipping to europe). Their warranty lasts 3 months, and their flat repair rate does not include screens.

Now, a new PRS500 costs $298 (prices have dropped)

I tried to negociate with the customer service, with no success. I apparently only have a few days to decide. I tried to speak to their supervisor, I was to told to wait more than 30 minutes...

So just be warned, SONY has a sexy product.... while it works. Their warranty and repair policy is a disaster, totally unworthy from a serious company. More than $400 are gone in 3 months : the e-reader had a fault, and they won't repair it for a reasonnable price.

Finally, I am worried, because I have seen several other cases like me in the forums (faulty screen, high repair costs), so I am not isolated.

If anyone from SONY is reading this, and is willing to help, please react to this post.
==> I'll keep you posted if the situation improves.

Meanwhile, think really hard before you buy a ereader...

Hm. Sounds like it is not really a warranty -- just an expensive repair service. Too bad. Caveat emptor.

Maybe you can take advantage of the credit card offer somehow. I wish you luck.

I'm afraid that's the risk you take when you buy a product outside the country in which it's officially sold. This is something that you need to be aware of when buying it - that effectively you're buying it with no warranty.

I had missed the fact that you were past the warranty period. Still -- it is short, isn't it? Maybe early adoptors need to think about warranty insurance on fresh technologies.

Got my reader thorugh friend of mine in the US and now this device is in Wroclaw, Poland .
On the above posts...
Taking into account how much Iliad costs in Europe vs weak USD -> Sony Reader, the benefits outweight the risk of having a problem with this device in the future . The only thing I do not get is why dont they sell this product outside of the US as 50% of world wide hacking & cracking & copyright problems come from the States . Taking into account EU prices + VAT (22%) they could make a serious amount of money here.
Cheers

It's an issue with book distribution rights -- Sony doesn't have them worldwide, and having a Reader is equivalent to having access to their books (especially with the credits), so they're showing "due diligence" by not selling the Reader where they aren't allowed to distribute books.

I anticipate that it will change in the future, but it will likely take a while. I really expected Canadian availability to be in place by now.
