Hi guys.
May I ask one of the experts to update the Newsweek recipe? It used to create nice clean articles but now there are readers' comments in the middle of some articles. Sometimes these comments appear 2-3 times within a single article. It's not a big deal but enhancement would be nice.

Thanks in advance,
David

Missing Two News Feeds

Hi,

I've noticed that two of my favorite news feeds no longer appear in the list in the latest version of calibre (0.4.133):

- Spiegel International Online (the English version of Der Spiegel Online)
- Common Dreams

Any chance of getting those back on the list? Thanks.

Gang,

Please ignore my previous post above. I see that when we select a feed for daily download the item seems to move to the top of the list. And both the feeds I mentioned are daily feeds for me and they do appear up top.

Bye...

Kovid,

Now that there are so many newsfeeds, which is great, any chance of organizing the list by language? It would make looking for new feeds easier to locate.

Those of us who would like to explore news in these other languages would know what language we're looking at. While most of my reading is done in English I do like to check out the Spanish, German, Serbian, and other feeds.

Thanks in advance if it's possible.

Bye...

Hello, just wondering if it might be possible to create a recipe for one or both of these newspapers:

Honolulu Advertiser: http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/
Honolulu Star Bulletin: http://www.starbulletin.com/

Many thanks from a calibre loving Kindle user

Recipe for online magazine "Exiled online" (former The eXile).
This one is tested and optimized for both LRF and EPUB formats.

I updated a recipe because I detected minor error.

Latest release of calibre orders recipes by language, which is great, but there are some errors. Here is the list of changes:

Recipes Danas, Blic, NIN online, Pescanik, vecernje novosti, Vijesti and vreme should go into Serbian (as they are all serbian newspapers or magazines or in serbian language)

Recipe jutarnji should go into section for Croatian language

Recipe De morgen is in German

Recipe st. petersburg times is for newspaper from russia but it is in english

Recipes Jornal Brasileiro Online, O Estado de S. Paulo and O globo should go into portugese section

BTW this is just a thought: Would you consider adding property to the recipe that specifies language based on ISO 639 so that you can automatically detect in which language group to place it?

Hi

I'm new here. I'd been trying to create a recipe for New Statesman magazine. I'd found RSS feeds for the main articles and columnist articles and have included several in the recipe shown below. However it seems that all these provide summaries, and it is necessary to click on a link to open the full article in each case (within the web browser).
Is there a way to retrieve the full articles rather than just the summaries?

Thank you.

p.s. Anyone got a Linux Format magazine recipe?

Code:
class AdvancedUserRecipe1234003183(BasicNewsRecipe):
    title          = u'New Statesman'
    oldest_article = 8
    max_articles_per_feed = 100

    feeds          = [(u'Politics', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/topics/politics.rss'), (u'Arts & Culture', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/topics/arts-and-culture.rss'), (u'Books', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/topics/books.rss'), (u'Life & Society', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/topics/life-and-society.rss'), (u'World Affairs', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/topics/world-affairs.rss'), (u'Columns - Martin Bright', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/martin_bright.rss'), (u'Columns - Kira Cochrane', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/kira_cochrane.rss'), (u'Columns - Hunter Davies', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/topics/world-affairs.rss'), (u'Columns - Noreena Hertz', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/noreena_hertz.rss'), (u'Columns - Lindsey Hilsum', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/lindsey_hilsum.rss'), (u'Columns - Darcus Howe', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/darcus_howe.rss'), (u'Columns - Emma John', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/emma_john.rss'), (u'Columns - Sadakat Kadri', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/sadakat_kadri.rss'), (u'Columns - Mark Lynas', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/mark_lynas.rss'), (u'Columns - Kevin Maguire', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/kevin_maguire.rss'), (u'Columns - Rageh Omaar', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/rageh_omaar.rss'), (u'Columns - John Pilger', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/john_pilger.rss'), (u'Columns - Ziauddin Sardar', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/ziauddin_sardar.rss'), (u'Columns - Clive Stafford-Smith', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/clive_stafford_smith.rss'), (u'Columns - Michela Wrong', u'http://www.newstatesman.com/feeds/writers/michela_wrong.rss') ]

Hi,

I've had similar problems with the recipes I've tried to create for other publications. If I knew more about how to fine tune the recipes I'd have more luck and would like to share them with everyone here.

What about a workshop for creating recipes? Those of you who understand the intricacies of how they work could team lead a workshop for us beginners. We could start out with simple examples and then gradually build on that so that we could solve the problem mentioned above.

Kovid? Dominic? Would such a workshop be possible? Is there anyone with time that could lead such a "class"?

The more recipes generated the better. I think it adds value to Kovid's fantastic program.

I would love to see such a workshop.

Tschuess (German for Bye)...

Fixed, thanks. And yeah eventually calibre will move to using ISO 639, but that requires more work, so for the time being it's just names.
