As the others have said, pressing the "Copy to clipboard" button is a lot more useful. If you press the "Show details" button, more information about the error is show. The copy button copies this for easy pasting elsewhere. But, from the rest of the screenshot, I suspect that none of the buttons would have worked.

What were you doing when this happened? I can see the Annotations configuration dialog. I assume you had pressed a button on it. Which one? Had you made any other changes to the configuration?

ere is what I've done: 64bit Windows Calibre. Stock install. Added just the Annotation plugin via the Calibre program. Once installed I simply click the Annotation button on the top and get the error screen. Show details=Crash, Copy to clipboard=Crash, Ok=back to program. Right clicking on the Annotation plugin will give me a drop down menu clicking on anything results in 'ERROR: Unhandled exception. Attributeerror: NoneType.

Hope this helps. In mean time I'll uninstall\install \ retry

I managed to copy a error message from clipboard. Can not scroll message as Calbre crashes.

It seems calibre won't stick around long enough to get a useful error message. Odd, I didn't know a plugin could wreck things that thoroughly...

In any event, can you try starting calibre by opening a command prompt and typing the following:

calibre-debug -g

Then post the output that appears in the prompt.

What I need is the last two or three lines in that detailed error message. That tells me what line of code the error occurred in. All of it would be better. Running in debug mode like eschwartz suggests should show the stack when this happens.

That's an interesting place to get an error. It suggests that you have a book in your library that doesn't have an author. And that's something I thought was impossible. In any case, I have attached a version that handles this problem. Please try it and see if it fixes the problem.

I uploaded the wrong version earlier. Due to a stupid cut-and-paste mistake on my part, it had only half the changes I had intended to put in. Attached to post is the corrected version. It will have version number 1.4.5.

Thanks, I'll uninstall old one and install this one. Will update you all on my progress soon.
Update: installs and runs without crashing Calibre...Now to figure out how to use it. Is there a manual online ?
