Would you buy ebooks subsidized with ads? The question on the poll is: Would you mind ads in ebooks if they reduced the cost of the device and/or content? Many will read the thread title in the forum list, click on the poll and take it, not reading the poll question. some people already admitted to doing that. I'm sure they were not alone. If you answer yes to the topic question then you would really answer no to the poll question. BOb |

I voted against ads. I mean look at what happened to TV in america, as soon as DVRs became more popular they started adding the ads directly on top of the show! Let me tell you the CW has the ugliest green ad banner in the world and it's highly distracting, and then they added moving parts to the ad. I think if we gave an inch on this they'd take a mile and soon we'd have Ghost hunters walking across our text or some other crap.
I'm at the point where I feel like waiting for the dvds to come out to watch a tv series because it's much less annoying than the banner ads that take up half the screen of the show as it's playing. DVR last time I checked can't help you there. ![]() |

![]() I read a study? where it showed that people really do overlook ads. They did a test on the US Census Bureru website where they asked the users to tell them what the population of the United States is and more than half the people had to go to google to find the answer because they didn't see it on the front page because they'd made the population information into this big red font and most people just didn't see it. We've been trained already to ignore what's not important on a website. I mostly read this because it does affect webdesign. Basically don't make your important information look like an advertisement and you're good to go. ![]() |

As long as it was a fair subsidy, I don't think I'd mind. Contentwise, I'd be willing to pay upwards of $3 for a book with ads in it, even if they were spaced throughout the book. I can ignore things like that. If I could get a 9.7" screen ereader for $99, and it always had a continually changing banner ad down at the bottom, I could live with that too.

I think it would be great if you had the option of which version you wanted to buy because some folks would be happy to have the ads if it would save money. Other people would rather pay more and not have the ads. Choice is wonderful. Me personally, I'd pay the extra.
