So, how do we prevent automatic firmware updates form Amazon? 3.3 is probably going to be rolling out in the next couple of weeks or so and I want to stick with 3.1 until I can see what the new version is like (especially considering it would probably break all my carefully-balanced hacks).

I have a Kindle 2 running firmware 3.2.1. Should I use the Kindle 2 font pack, or the Kindle 3 font pack?

@worxman02: Assuming you can still acess it over USB, change the font/use an FT override. Barring that, do a hard factory reset, and use another font/an FT override next time . @Kindle DXG: You appear to be trying to mix a bunch of stuff together, so, err, can't really help you. You might want to take a look at the MR wiki if you're confused. @Tarr: Both can be jailbroken, you just won't be able to use the SS hack on a KSO device, for obvious reasons. @bike2002: No, and it's unlikely we'll see one in the near future (Cf. yifanlu's thread). @lukjad: Read the first post more carefully. Nothing here will change the [Aa] menu. @Mario1up: Check the updates-provider hack page, the crappy workaround involved depends on which jailbreak you're using. @lordheeb: The .bin from the -k2 pack, and the linkfonts folder from the -k3 pack. (Check a few pages back for more details). |

@Mario1up: Uninstall the jailbreak, install the latest version, and drop a blank 'ENABLE_HACK_UPDATES' file in the root directory if you want to 'block' official updates.

I used the 0.3 uninstaller and that worked fine. Then I tried installing the 0.9 jailbreak and it fails twice with the B006 error. I then used the 0.9 uninstaller and tried to install the jailbreak again and I get the same thing. And yes, I'm 100% sure I'm running 3.1. The strange thing is, all my hacks still seem to work. Not quite sure what to think of this, but if it works, it works. I guess we'll see what happens when the 3.3 update rolls out. |

@Mario1up: I'm assuming you meant 'U006'? If you only had *one* jailbreak installed, you shouldn't have been able to run the second uninstaller after having uninstalled the jailbreak (it would have failed with a U007 error). So, err, a bit confused as to what's exactly installed on your device right now . EDIT: In fact, if you were only using 0.3.N on FW 3.1, you wouldn't even have been able to uninstall it in the first place. So, you must have updated it at one point, or installed another jailbreak. In which case, uninstall both jailbreaks, *restart* your Kindle, and install a *single* recent jailbreak, that should clear things up. And a U006 error shouldn't ever happen on FW 3.x. Uninstalling a jailbreak won't touch your hacks, so, yeah, everything still installed will continue to work, you just won't be able to update/install/uninstall them without a jailbreak. Okay, so it seems I was a little confused here. It seems I somehow had yifanlu's jailbreak even though I completely thought I had yours. I finally got your latest jailbreak to install after running your uninstaller, running his uninstaller, restarting again, and then finally installing your 0.9 jailbreak. Thanks. I was ready to just back up everything, wipe it, and start over.

				Can't jailbreak Kindle 3 Wifi 3.2.1

Dear forum members, first of all, this is my first post, I'd like to say hello! Second, I bought a Kindle 3 Wifi, it came with fw version 3.2.1. Now I've tried to install jailbreak from multiple sources, Yifan Lu's 3.2.1 jb as well, but I can't get it to update, the option is always grayed out. Is there somebody else who experienced the same ? Thanks for your answer in advance. |

@eddie303: Make sure you're putting the file in the root of your Kindle, and not anywhere else (Check the Wiki).
