So Windows Mobile Device Center complains that I don't have outlook and while it establishes a connection and partnership, the connection drops.
If I tell it to connect to my device without setting up a partnership, then it appears nicely. I don't want to put it in regular usb mode because I'm trying to get Visual Studio to allow me to use the activesync/mobile device center so it will show up in the device manager of VS so I can deploy and debug. Has anyone been able to get this device hooked up with Visual Studio? I assume I'm limited to the Mobile Device Center with Windows 7 (don't think I can use activesync anymore). At the moment, it's like the ancient days with no interactive breakpoints and debugging, LOL. I code, compile, then drag my exe and dlls over and drop them on the device, then run there and test it. Any help on getting Visual Studio to be able to see this thing would be appreciated as it would give me modern interactive debugging capability and speed things up. I never had any issues with the canned Pocket PC as it integrated right in with Studio. |

Perhaps there is a special USB driver you need to pick up? I'll see if I can find something. I'm interested in this myself, as I might develop a special UI.

Total braindeath. Right after I posted that, watched a movie with my wife and afterwords within 5 minutes of sitting back down to the PC here, it hit me like a ton of bricks.
All that grumbling about how useless their emulator had been (no wceload.exe for moving cabs to it, etc) had made me kind of give up on their SDK. Download Wits A81 English SDK from BBS. Smack that baby on, and viola. Even with no partnership, and only a Quick Connect in Windows Mobile Device Center, you can us the Visual Studio tools to target the Wits via the WTTSSDK_R3_ENG_ARMV4I_Device entry that it registers alongside the emulator. ![]() So, I have to hit the rack now and haven't tried to attach to a process or deploy and debug yet, however, I did use this device entry to actually connect to my device and use the Remote Registry Editor in VS Tools, so I'm sure all the rest of it is bound to work. Nothing special since I'm a programmer and not a graphics designer guy, but I'm working on a Bubble Pop game that's finger friendly and takes advantage of the 800 x 480. Since I'm going to give it all away freely licensed, I've scarfed some graphics from free iconset/png sites that just require attribution to the artists (which I'll plaster their names all over the Help|About screen. I'm also working of fixing up a pretty good version of Mahjong source code that was for Windows Mobile. It was originally for 640 x 480 vga, so the tileset is good sized for the Wits. It's just open source and rough around the edges. Throws some exceptions now and then, likely attributable to CE vs Pocket PC/Mobile. Anyway, hasn't been touched since 2008, so I'll see if the author would make a CE branch if I wanted to contribute back. It's GNU public license, so I wouldn't have to necessarily send the changes back to him if I understand correctly, as long as I offer all my source for it for free and clearly label all my changes from his originals, keep all his original lables and offer it as GNU myself under the same license. Too much to do, not enough time to do it. |

After three weeks, I still have four problems which I can't figure out...
1) Coreplayer. I cannot get it to display and play youtube videos. I can download a video and it will play it, but not through a live connection. 2) Suspend. Randomly, when suspending, it might come back to life... or it might not. ??? 3) Freeze-up from lack of memory. Doesn't take too much activity to drain the memory and demand a hard reset to get back to usage. 4) The keyboard is too wide when screen is rotated into portrait mode. I have to slide it into frame... over and over again. ??? Any suggestions? |

pphilip,
I had similar issues with my W1060. The freezeups happened when using IE to surf the internet. I'm sure you have tried this, but it helps a little to adjust the memory available to applications vs storage memory in the control panel. I did not have screen rotation issues other than the fact that I just didn't have rotation unless I was in programs that allowed it (there wasn't a screen rotate utility when the device first came out). One thing I know for sure about my own experiences, I still prefer WinCE over Android. I know many folks think Android is the best thing going for MIDs these days, but for me it just isn't that great. I even prefer Linux over Android. I tried the iPhoneToday UI and it is pretty good. A little sluggish on the SmartV7. I was telling DMDyne that I'm going to buy a new MID in the next few days, but I'm just not sure which to get. I'm seriously looking at the X10 or the Dawa D7. |

Download this and look through it. It has a version of Foxit that is easy to install. I haven't, personally, looked for Jetset yet. http://filefactory.com/file/b40cdc6/...E6freeware.zip @ColdSun, the Samsung Q1EX-71G looks like it's just waiting for a ColdSun review...lol http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/o...ail&returnurl= Last edited by DMDyne; 06-24-2010 at 11:02 AM. |

Looks nice, DMDyne, but too expensive. I usually review things us mere mortals can afford (and its easy on my wallet because I end up buying them myself).

Im waiting for my new a81 to come in, a longer wait than I intended with the june 30th release but should be worth it for dual boot (wince6/android2.1). According to microsoft.com winCE 6 runs silverlight apps:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New features in CE 6.0 R3: Silverlight for Windows Embedded The power of Silverlight brought to Windows Embedded CE to create rich applications and user interfaces ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Has anyone been able to experiment with this functionality? Do these apps run? http://www.silverlight.net/showcase/ |
Coldsun, will you consider Huawei Smakit S7??? I saw endgaget stated that they are available right now.
Although it's not your type (it is android built) and a little more expensive (USD 355). |
Actually, yes that is a fantastic little MID. I'm not completely adverse to Android, I just haven't run into anything but a phone that could run it without issues. Both the Ramos W7 and the Huawei Smakit S7 look like they might be able to do the job.
