Before you replied, I already (re)-done the entire jailbreak step. And now I have my jb back! I will try your mentioned step in next reset. Thank you very much! ![]() ![]() May I know whether this jailbreak-restore-after-factory-reset guide is documented elsewhere? I thought I have searched the entire forum and found none ![]()

I believe it is provided in the README file in one of the archives. It is a good idea to read those asap anyway

I found a Paperwhite 3 on eBay that happened to have 5.13.6 installed for only $25 (slight ding in screen).

This guide got me up and running in a hurry. I now have KOReader installed and can read my collection of eBooks I've assembled over the years without the need to convert them. Thanks to all the developers, especially katadelos, NiLuJe, yparitcher and darkassassinua! |

Hi, I have a Kindle Paperwhite 3 with firmware 5.9.4 which I Jailbreaked in 2017 (with JailBreak-1.14.N-hotfix) and since then the Kindle has been in Airplane mode.

I would like to update to the newer firmware version 5.14.2, but I have two issues. - one is that I can't find the archive of older firmwares on Amazon so I can download 5.14.2 for PW3, - I don't know what steps to take: do the update, then reset the Kindle to factory settings and jailbreak again or can I somehow put the new jailbreak first and then the update so that I don't have to reset the Kindle? Install the latest hotfix, do the manual firmware update, then reinstall KUAL and anything else you have. There is no need to do another jailbreak.

There have been recent threads telling how to get old firmwares. Basically you need to figure out the URL for the latest PW3 firmware and change the firmware version in the URL to the one you want. amazon has added layers of indirection and it it hard to describe the exact steps. |

I extracted the link to this firmware from softpedia.com. The link is https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredow...ite_5.14.2.bin and now I have the file "update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_5.14.2.bin" - 258.395.045 bytes Thanks for now, I'll test the update tomorrow and I hope I can make it. |

It has been going straight to a download dialog or automaticlly downloads for some time now, depending on browser and settings. The description of what to do is a moving target. |

You can Ctrl + J to open Chrome's Downloads window and there you can see what is / was the actual link the file was downloaded from.

On the desktop version of Chrome the link is either fully visible or there is an option to copy it I cant recall that detail now. And on mobile version I could just now confirm that the newest firmware binary is still hosted on the same domain: s3.amazonaws.com ![]() So like I said: clicking on that link with amazon.com domain redirects the request to the old known firmware server domain. |

Ctrl + J seems to only apply to already downloaded files. Seems wasteful to have to download the most recent version to find out what the actual URL is.

You don't have to let it complete the download but you do have to let it start downloading that one time (once per Kindle model) in order to discover the structure of URL, then in the future you can just edit version number...

Any chance the CVE info/technical writeup will be released soon? The OP says that it will be released "when 5.14.3" has been rolled out, and Amazon seems to be on the 5.15 chain now.

			Thank you for the jailbreak.

I guess I got lucky when ordering a refurb. I just got a Paperwhite Signature Edition (PW5). I made sure not to have Amazon set up my device for me, as I assume they update the firmware. That checkbox seemed to reselect itself everytime I loaded the next page. Ended up with v5.14.2. Absolutely stoked about that. |

KPW 2 not being recognized by Win10, stuck on step 2.1

			Hello folks,

after looking around and not finding and answer to this issue I decided to make and account and *beg* for your help. I'm currently stuck on step 2.1 I cannot "Create the directory .demo at the root of the Kindle storage" because my kindle PW2 (5.12.2.2) is not recognized by my PC. I have tried literally every single USB cable I have, in every usb port in my pc, to no avail. I tried using the ;uzb command while on demo mode but it did not help. Could anyone offer any guidance? Thank you very much |
