Setup

1. Factory reset the device Make sure to use the "en_GB" or "English (United Kingdom)" locale when setting the language.
2. Type ;enter_demo in the Kindle search bar after performing a factory reset
3. Reboot the device
4. Once in demo mode, skip setting up wifi and enter dummy values for store registration when prompted.
5. Skip searching for a demo payload
6. Select the "standard" demo type
7. Press "Done" at the prompt to sideload content. Do not sideload the jailbreak at this stage.
8. Once the demo is setup, skip the misconfiguration lockout using the "secret gesture" (double finger tap on bottom right of screen then swipe left)
9. Enter the demo configuration menu by typing ;demo into the search bar
10. Select the "Sideload Content" option

I did it wrong and now the double tap on lower right, swipe left isn't working.

I was on step 2, and tried ;enter_demo a few times and best as I can recall did a google search to find more specific instructions (this is my first day with finally getting an ereader)

on step 2, the final time the one that finally did something, I used ;demo

I am in "misconfiguration lockout" and the "secret gesture" isn't working.

You're not supposed to do a double tap but a two finger tap followed by a single finger swype.

I have 3 questions for anyone that can help:

1. If i buy a Kindle Paperwhite 5 from amazon right now can i expect it to have a jailbreak-able firmware?
2. After jailbreaking the kindle can i have it run koreader right from the start?
3. Will i be able to update the Kindle while keeping the jailbreak, or will it be stuck on old firmware (until some new jailbreak method for newer firmwares is discovered)?

1) It depends on which firmware comes your new Kindle, to get this working
2) Need to install hotfix, MRPI, KUAL (coplate) and KOReader installed first
Then you can enjoy KOReader and other tools

my kindle paperwhite 11th is version 5.14.0.1.
can i apply this method directly or not? Or should I update to 5.14.2.
sorry if this question may seem silly but I am totally new to jailbreaking!

Update to 5.14.1.1 then do the jailbreak procedure.
5.14.1.1 can be reverted to that old UI that you have now on factory firmware 5.14.0.1, 5.14.2 can't.

I wanted to do it manually but the only version available on the amazon site is 5.14.3.0.1
Where can I find the version you are talking about?

Download the firmware bin directly from Amazon's server:

After factory reset don't connect it to WiFi during the initial setup wizard or it will download and install latest firmware (5.14.3.x) and then you're f-cked.

Just complete the setup while offline without registering it to your Amazon account then copy over 5.14.1.1 firmware bin and install it. Then follow the jailbreak instructions demo blah blah blah.

Time for a nood & confused question.

I just went through the instructions on my Paper White 2 (PW2-5.12.2.2). During the jailbreak install I saw flashes of the jailbreak text appear on screen.
post this I installed the `Update_hotfix_watchthis_custom.bin` and it rebooted my device.

So I presume now I'm running a jailbroke Kindle, but I'm not sure what to look for in terms of new options and toys. The Kindle just resembles a factory reset device. I don't see any signs of jailbroken stuff.

Did this go right? Am I just being an idiot?

Does logging into an Amazon account and having the “special offers” ads removed by Amazon jeopardize the jailbreak in any way? After using the KUAL update blocking extension.
