There is an optional update blocker extension that works by renaming the OTA update progam files. That should still work.

Thanks for that, I'll check it out. Before I do that, to follow-up: after downgrading, the Kindle restarted itself and automatically proceeded to re-install 5.14.3.0.1! As in, just minutes after I downgraded it. I have no idea how or what happened there. Trying the downgrade again this time airplane mode for sure on. I'm installing the extension above immediately too.

Yeah Amazon is VERY aggressive with updating kindles. The instant you connect to WiFi it will begin downloading the latest firmware. Always keep in airplane mode until your OTA bins are renamed. Worth noting, you need to reapply the renameotabin extension after every update or downgrade. When you do either of those, it will replace the files and reenable the OTA binaries.

I just somehow did it all wrong - first when I got to step 9 in jailbreak it just showed me the getting started guide and my W11 PC didnt recognize my kindle anymore. I used the ;uzb and it got recognized again, but then I saw in the settings that I`m having a 5.14.3.01 version now :/ and now it is in a permanent DEMO mode and I can't do a factory reset even though I made an empty txt file DO_FACTORY_RESTORE. Now I`m having a kindle in a permanent demo mode, i tried to log in to my account, but they still don`t let me do the reset. Can someone help?

If you read the instructions, it tells you that you need to do the secret gesture at this step. There are even helpful little pictures on the OG post to help you out. Just tap with 2 fingers as shown on the image, then swipe left. Pretty simple stuff if you follow along closely.

OMG, thanks...helped a lot. I literally thought "double tap" but it's a tap with two fingers as you said. Bless you...now I can read and learn stuff in a proper way using Koreader.

For Kindle Voyage I found the quality of the second step is very important

1. Tap with 2 fingers on the bottom right corner of the screen (and take them off the screen).
2. Swipe left from the bottom right with one finger. Make sure it goes all the way from the bottom right corner to the bottom left corner.

Is there an advantage of upgrading 5.14.1.1 vs 5.14.2? My new PW5 SE came with 5.14.0.1 so I have the pick of either firmware to upgrade to before jailbreaking.

Hey, I am in same boat. I bought a Kindle 11th gen, I believe thats paperwhite 5. The firmware version is 5.14.0.1 and serial starts with G001PX.

Simple: update to 5.14.1.1 (by manually downloading the bin file linked 2 comments above yours and transfer it to your Kindle PW5 via USB cable) first and then follow the jailbreak instructions.

Does the JB prevents OTA updates or do I need to do anything extra?

Okay, I am really confused about how to install KUAL and MRPI :/

It somewhat counter-intuitive (using / running MRPI before you have functional KUAL, even more so when you're doing that to install KUAL itself ).

But basically you do this:

1) download, extract and copy over to your Kindle both MRPI and KUAL files (you need to use "coplate" version od KUAL booklet package) from the sticky thread for @NiLuJe's snapshots.
2) on Kindle in search bar type ";log mrpi" (without quotes) and execute the search (by pressing an arrow icon or whatever is used on that newer UI). It should start the KUAL installer and writing stuff on the screen.

The jailbreak has added that search command / script shortcut (;log mrpi) thing and now you have that alternative way of starting MRPI (the primary way being using KUAL to start MRPI).

Essentially, before installing the jailbreak, on my 2019 Paperwhite, I was able to share > goodreads and it would update my reading progress percentage. I've installed the jailbreak, MRPI, KUAL and screensavers and now I get an error when trying to share.

I unlinked the account and re-linked it, in case it was a password error, but that hasn't helped. When I try to launch Goodreads from the kindle menu, it takes me to a "choose your favourite genre" screen, that doesn't ever populate, so I can't progress.
I *am* however able to "view this book on goodreads" successfully, and I'm fully logged in there, so it's not a network problem.

Just wanted to bump this, in the hopes that maybe someone has an idea, but missed seeing it earlier.

It's not the biggest problem in my world, but I did enjoy the convenience of just clicking "share to goodreads" to update my reading percentage.

Couple of questions.

1. The jailbreak archive had `Update_hotfix_watchthis_custom.bin`, I installed this as well. What does this do?
2. Do I need to install K5 JailBreak Hotfix? What does it do? (I noticed a person installing here, they also have same device and FW version)
