I totally thought you were joking and wanting to see what sort of responses you could reel in.

I've not read the book, but the film version has the best sword fight I've ever seen in any film!

I read the book recently and found it very good. And of course the movie is a classic!

You should read (or listen to) Cary Elwes's memoirs (As You Wish) about the making of the movie. Elwes and Patinkin worked their butts off for that sword fight. It was always intended to be the centerpiece of the show, and it showed! If you like the movie and/or the book, As You Wish is an enjoyable companion. I'm not a huge audiobook fan, but I highly recommend it in this case. Cary's voice makes all the difference.

Yeah, I read the book, saw the movie, and even moderated the discussion, but you see so many of these "Help me find my [child/daughter/etc.]" things on Facebook that I initially thought it was intended to be a serious posting, and that's what threw me. I feel like a politician who just finished quoting The Onion to back up their facts and figures. In my defense, that was 160 books ago.

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." is just SUCH a big meme, that I was sure you were joking about not recognizing it!
![]() But I've only seen the movie. I *have* the ebook. I really really need to go read it! (Well, and besides, I run in circles where "Princess Bride" is everybody's favorite movie of all times!) Last edited by badgoodDeb; 05-22-2015 at 02:14 PM. |

Hmmm -- I ordered it in hardback, so I could see the pictures better, and could pass it around. Can one get audiobooks to match a hardback?

![]() I'm looking for the first book that I abandoned. Published before 1975. Humanity has populated the stars; thousands of worlds, maybe hundreds of thousands. There is a central government for all this with a top man/woman leader. I don't remember if it's an empire or democracy or what but there is a long established political elite. There is a prediction of some kind that the next leader will come from outside the usual channels. I'm thinking a backwoods world. I don't think the current leader was all that concerned but the "powers behind the throne" decided to try to locate this person and do something about it. I was bored to tears with all the political wheeling dealing and then the scene changes to a much more interesting backwoods world. I think it opens with a man shoeing horses. I got the impression of an Amish level technology. It turns out that this world was settled fairly early in mankind's expansion as an experiment. The colony ship was populated 100% with geniuses. The typical work week might be two days working on a farm, a day teaching advanced astrophysics at the university and a couple of days in the lab expanding knowledge way beyond anything the rest of humanity is aware of. I might be remembering my own opinion, but I think they were maintaining a low profile to avoid all those boring bureaucrats. At any rate, the story leaves that world and I was disappointed enough to drop the book. In the trash. I thought it might be part of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series but I've read the preludes and up to Foundation and Earth (unfinished) and haven't found it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ![]() |

My wife is looking for a book she read in elementary school (mid-80s) about a young girl named Phoebe during the American Revolution. She thinks the title contains the girl's name but isn't sure. She did find "Phoebe the Spy" but doesn't think that is the right book. Any thoughts?
