The software allows for an amazing variety of facial expression. I don't use nearly as much as I could, because the characters (so far) are Japanese and very restrained in expression. There are some characters coming up who are a lot more open, and I'm looking forward to illustrating their wider ranges of expression. Meanwhile, if you're interested in seeing more images (including color), I've got a gallery here: http://artzone.daz3d.com/index.php?/.../va/&aid=15659 I'm attaching an example of a color image for the next version of my card game.

B&W was a conscious choice, in keeping with the traditional manga format.

Yvan, that sculpture is amazing. I think the styrofoam would drive me crazy. I'm assuming you have to wear a mask while carving it.

Regarding programming... I think my manga may (in some ways) be more like programming than conventional art, because I produce it with 3d software. (And yes, I am hoping to finish another chapter or so this summer.) I have a gallery here at MR that has the pages that are done up to this point, if anyone's curious. And definitely more in the programming direction would be my latest project, which involved "remapping" a 3d model to be able to use textures created for an older model.

I just finished an enamel pin, and I did take pictures of it, but I just realized I don't have a card reader here (or the connector that would let me use my iLiad as a card reader) so I'll need to wait till I'm home to post them.
My daughter, Shannon, the artist behind my avatar, has been reading and drawing manga for years. She used to write the most wonderful stories (before the demands of college got in the way). I'm hoping that now that she has graduated, she will have time to work on her drawings and maybe added a story line as well.

Here's the enamel pin I mentioned yesterday. I used a stamp for the basic shape-- I reversed the stamp by using it on a piece of polymer clay and using that as the stamp to imprint the silver clay. The silver clay was then fired, then I used the wet-packing method to add enamel, then fired again.

I should have taken a picture of the back, as well. I'd originally made it using a finding set that had separate sockets to be fired in place and a pinback part to add after firing was complete, but I lost the pinback and had to make a new one. I used heavy-gauge silver wire, hammered on the ends to give me a thin flat surface, which I drilled with a Dremel tool. Then I used eyeglass screws to fasten the pin back parts to the pin.

I kind of wish I'd used the other shade of blue, rather than the dark Prussian blue, to contrast better with the Concord purple and transition better to the Peacock Green, but my mom was happy with the result.

I finished that big sculpture and delivered it this afternoon. There are pictures on my page. Tomorrow they start molding it. I might see it on the house they built sometime in august.

I've had the honor of being the Production Manager (AKA gopher) for a international Modding* group for the last five years. We are responsible for the cars in the above video (another team did the 1977 Le Mans track shown). Altogether we produced 125 historically accurate 1970 sports cars including 48 of the 51 1970 Le Mans starters. We created the models, sounds, and the physics that permit fans to drive these cars in a racing simulation game.

The above is the result of two and a half years of effort and I am inordinately proud of it and my group.

*Modding is the practice of altering a computer game to portray something other than what the game makers intended.

Totally awesome work Yvan. Hope we can see it when it's on the house also. Maybe you can get a picture.

Norm . . . the cars look great at that speed. Just wish we could see it in slo-mo or still frame to get a closer look. Any chance?

Here are some of my favorite screenshots. They are "professional" and have been retouched, mostly for backgound. BTW, to give you some idea of how accurate the cars are, the helmet colors are correct for each driver.

One more. This is Vic Elford's Porsche 917 at Sebring in 1970 and is not retouched. The Sebring 1970 track is my own project within the group. I've been working on various versions of historically accurate Sebring track models for several years.

Those pictures are amazing. It's a pity that race cars go so fast, the movie doesn't do them justice. Nice work!

Just thought I'd give this thread a bump for the newer members to hopefully show their artistic side for us to see, and for the older members (in membership, not necessarily in age) to show us some of their newest creations.
