There are many role-playing fans who have all of their RPG books scanned into PDFs. As a matter of fact, many RPG companies release their books on PFD, and Wizards of the Coast have released their Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition core books (PH, DMG, MM) on PDF already.
Just with D&D 3.5 alone there are over 30 books. Try packing up a duffelbag and carrying all of those to your next game. I personally have almost all of the 3.5 books in hardback, but I downloaded PDF copies for my laptop. Much easier to tote. If I had a 9.7 Astak or other reader, I could carry them all much more easily. Hrmm...70 pounds of books or 1 pound astak. *ponder ponder ponder* ![]() That's why a larger screened reader has been on my list for a long time. reading a full-sized Player's Handbook, complete with 10pt font and no zooming in and scrolling over. A dream come true for myself, and many others. I hope this answers your question. gw |

I imagine Jon wasn't doubting the value of RPG books in ebook format. He's on a crusade to try to convince people not to use the term "eReader" to mean anything other than books in the proprietary eReader format (now owned by Fictionwise). I personally think it's a lost cause and that the way he tends to correct people only causes confusion (as shown in this thread).

If the Jetbook had one of these things, I would have kept it: 1. Reflow PDF files. 2. Support for eReader DRMed books. 3. Support for Mobipocket DRMed books. The file/folder navigation and support was excellent. The dictionary support was quite good to. Battery life was more than acceptable considering the LCD screen. BOb |

The first and right portable information terminal in the world featuring color electronic paper with a large display 12 mm thick
Fujitsu Frontech Starts Limited Sales of Portable Information Terminal “FLEPia” Fujitsu Frontech Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Limited today announced the joint development and commercial introduction of samples of a ubiquitous browser, “FLEPia” that adopts color electronic paper first in the world. This product has a large display 12 mm thick, weighs 320g (A5-size model). It can run 50 hours continuously with a fully charged battery. A large amount of information (a year of newspapers, two years of weekly magazines or 5,000 volumes of books) can be stored in this terminal by using 4GB SD card (option). Fujitsu Frontech Limited announced the development of a ubiquitous browser, “FLEPia” that adopts color electronic paper first in the world and launches domestic sales of the samples. “FLEPia” will be displayed in “Fujitsu Forum 2007” being held on 17th and 18th May at Tokyo International Forum. “FLEPia” realizes compactness and low power by electronic paper which can display a still image continuously without power supply. There are two types of size, A4-size (12 inch) and A5-size (8 inch). A4-size weighs 480g and A5-size weighs 320g. They measure 12mm and can run for 50 hours at most. Larger View The contents stored to SD card (option) thorough a high speed wireless LAN can be referred “Anytime” and “Anywhere”. For example, the latest information can be downloaded at speed and available at the wireless LAN spot or a Net cafe. The purpose of the limited sales of “FLEPia” is for the field trial of some companies who are considering business by making use of color electronic paper. Therefore it is equipped with USB mini-B connecter and a stereo speaker which is available for various applications. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Top of Page [Feature of ubiquitous browser, “FLEPia”] [1]Visible display and color variation There are two types of size, A4-size (12 inch) which can display largely and portable A5-size (8 inch). The resolution of both types is the XGA standard of 768 x 1024. A color display is adopted and 8 colors or 4,096 colors can be configured. There are three color variation for the body of “FLEPia”, white pearl, pink pearl and silver. [2] Simple operation “FLEPia” has the large touch panel of 12 inch or 8 inch and it is easy to operate with a scroll button and six function buttons. [3]Long operating time Because electronic paper is adopted for a display, a still image can be displayed continuously without power supply. Power supply is necessary only for redrawing of a image. Therefore “FLEPia” can run longer than the other liquid crystal display panels. With a fully charged battery, “FLEPia” can run for 50 hours (when 3,000 pages are displayed every 1 minute on 8 colors display.) [4]Full outside interface High speed wireless LAN of 11/54Mbps conformed to IEEE802.11b/g, a USB mini-B connecter conformed to a USB 2.0 (480Mbps) and a SD card slot are equipped as outside interface.

eheheheh hi Luigino , ooops for italian language ok i post the google translation . mmmm
still with mentor ?? have you read about Frontech machine ? Mentor will be old when it will come out !!! better to make up a 10 persons group and buy the Frontech FLEPia a4 : A4 2,625,000 yen per 10 units = 262,5 yen pro unit = 1.566 euro mmmmmmm......... translation no time for mine .... For some time we talk about electronic newspaper, but finally, thanks to Epson, an idea is becoming reality. At the 2008 SID (Society for Information Display) in Los Angeles, Epson presented a device consisting of display for a reading experience similar to that of a newspaper copy. The e-paper is great as an ordinary piece of A4 paper for printing, and a diagonal measurement of 13.4 inches. The device measuring 180 x 120 mm, with an eye to its portability, often 3 mm heavy just 57 grams and with a huge resolution, which is as high 3104x4128 pixels that is a 385 pixels per inch above a magazine that is printed with a definition of 300 dots per inch. The contrast ratio is 10:1 and has a reflection of 40%, means, in essence, that you can read with good accuracy even in the sun. The display was designed and developed using the technology of E Ink Corporation and a production process with the use of polycrystalline silicon at low temperature, Seiko Epson. Communication with the outside world is guaranteed by a USB port and power is provided by a thin battery that button cell capable of feeding 1,420 screens (remember that e-paper, once rendered information on the screen, not consume energy, although the data remain below). |

another new from frontech side:
We first saw Fujitsu's FLEPia e-books with the company's color e-ink tech over a year ago, but rumor has it they're finally getting close to launch. That's the word according to Nikkei, which says that the A4-sized readers won't feature an integrated backlight, but still be able to run for up to 50 hours on a single charge. The WiFi-capable unit is said to cost ¥100,000 ($941)= 588.343 EUR , but other specs are still up in the air -- hopefully they'll be changing the name as well. |

So the CPU isn't running in the background (while the screen isn't drawing power)?
