Thanks a million for the excellent alternative document reader. I am curious if it is at all possible to optionally automatically crop PDFs of whitespace. I have a few textbooks in my library that alternate left and right pages on which has an exorbitant amount of side whitespace, and it would be pretty cool if it could be removed automagically. If this is not possible within the scope of the PDF reading library, I completely understand.

This particular problem can be solved without automatic cropping:
  • Tap and hold the margin cropper icon.
  • Select Even/Odd.
  • If you now crop the margins on a page (by tapping the margin cropper icon), only the pages with the same parity will use the cropping settings you've set.

Ohh, that even/odd cropping tip is so great! I used to use krop for that purpose. krop is still a great tip if you ever want to do some advanced (pre-)cropping with a super easy interface

I was testing Plato and it doesn't save any of my reading "progress" info if I quit the program or reboot from the menu.

If I select quit from the menu, it will go back to kobo original menu but display an error message saying that "my SD card is not format fat32" and all my pdf and epub disappeared. I have to power down and then power up to get back the books.

Also, reading pdf seems to be not as "clear" as original kobo reader.

The great thing is it turn page very fast and I like the "crop" function.

Thanks for reporting. I think I found the problem: /usr/local/Kobo/udev/sd mounts the SD card read-only. I'll have to adjust the launch script accordingly.

Thank you very much for this alternative reader. I like its clean interface and easy to use.
I have some requests though:
- I would like to see a progress bar at the bottom of the book during reading.
- I would like a scroller bar in the Go To page box to tap at a page instead of writing the page number.

Also:
- I cannot zoom in a pdf. Does this feature exist?
- I need to type in Romanian or Russian but the keyboard does not have the characters. Can this be modified?

Thanks

I don't personaly feel the need for headers or footers, but I'm taking note of your feedback.

You can jump to a relative page by prepending + or - to the page number.

If the page number appears in the book's text, you can select it and tap Go To in the selection menu. In order for this to work, you'll have to name pages first.

This feature request was discussed in previous posts.

The keyboard layout concept exists but hasn't been externalized yet.

I am having a bug on my Kobo Aura H20 where if I (accidentally) activate the rotation function, the screen presses are rotated 180 degrees from where they should be. If inside the menu, I have to somehow exit the application by pressing where the buttons aren't, and if inside a book, I have to connect the device to my computer to edit the 'rotation' key in the .metadata.json file. I can provide a video of the bug if required, because there's not really a way to screenshot this.
