And using a new SD card is a good idea. A lot of them have failed in the Glo. You can use a larger card. Anything up to 16GB should work. Some 32GB will work and others do not.

I will get a new card and try again. If it still won't connect, I'll try writing a firmware update directly to the card and try network connection. Will post results when I get a new card.

Small SD cards are quite rare. Ordered couple of 8 gb cards from Amazon. Just wondering if I can upgrade via network if I temporarily set my router to open wifi in case usb still not recognized.

Once you get the device working and updated, you can use WiFi. But, as I explained in PM, the Glo running the factory firmware cannot connect to the Kobo servers because it is using older security protocols. You will need to update to a more recent firmware before it can connect. Once it is working fully, you can put books on it using the browser. There are some other methods, but, they might be hard to setup if the USB connection does not work.

I recommend using a new card for the Glo. You can use a larger card, but, there might be issues if it is larger than 16GB. Plus, read the post immediately above yours.

Hello,
Can somebody please send me the SD Card Images for my Kobo Glo HD?

My problems started, when i plugged in the AC cable, the display went black and the reader said "please connect the device to an loadin cable" (the text is not 1:1)

So i thought the battery is damaged.
i bought a new one and the problem continued.


the last step i made was erasing the sd card.....

so please can sb. help me.

Got a new 8 GB card, wrote the image, but same results, usb not recognized. Tried different cable, different port, different computer, all no go. Set wifi protocol. to open, connected, started update, network error. So I guess it's toast, unless there is a way to update firmware without a USB connection.

Well one Brite force manner would be, extract the SD card, place it in a reader on your PC, mount the partition that contains the . kobo directory and place the updated firmware files (the koboroot.tgz and the others extracted from the manual f/w download) in the .kobo directory.

Then when you place that SD card back in your device it will perform the upgrade.

@BobbyGee: As @PeterT said, you should be able to put the firmware update directly on the card. Then you will need to trigger a USB connect and disconnect to get it installed. If you are getting the connect prompt on the device, but the PC doesn't see it, then connect and disconnect should do this.

My reader is back online!
Everything works so good and it even got the recent update and FW fixes finally!

Thanks for the update info. Copied the firmware files to the card, re-inserted the card, and was able to connect wifi, and got the message it was up to date. Still get usb not recognized message. Can't seem to be able to connect to calibrate via wifi content server. I guess I can always sideload by removing the card and copying files directly.

That should be Calibre not calibrate.
