Actually, KSM is still something I really, really want (but don't have it compatible with newest Kobo devices).

On my (old) devices KSM works great, no problems at all and everything is just fine.

If (or maybe better to say when) I buy new device(s), I'll go with NM, but I think you should cease this way of talking about KSM.

Also, I'd like to stress, this in no way mean I disrespect, or anything like this of developers of NM. I'm very thankful and grateful that someone works on new software to make working with Kobo devices manageable.

Only thing I'd like to have is that I wouldn't need to use nickel at all (and yes, we already discussed this and I understand that NM is ... Nickel Menu, i.e. it needs nickel). I was just a bit provoked with so much disparaging of KSM, which is great software, even if it doesn't provide full support for new devices. But if works just fine with old ones (at least mine).

Don't mind Jon, he'll also tell you any ereader must be in a case, and that micro usb is superior to USB C, and that using kepub instead of epub is the best way to ruin your reading experience.

after updating (agressive, user side is not approved) to 4.23.15548, the NickelMenu is dead.

After reinstalling v0.3.2 version, the error message remains:

Generator error
kfmon: error checking '/tmp/kfmon-ipc.ctl': stat:No such file or directory (src/generator_c.c:93)

@sarigabor: That's because you need to reinstall KFMon after an update.

I've installed the One-Click-Package for KOReader and wanted to try and add some items to NickelMenu, since it's visible now in the home screen bottom corner.

I've added some lines to the nm configuration file for koreader and it looks like this now:

# Launch KOReader via KFMon
# NOTE: .adds/nm/kfmon will generate this automatically
#menu_item : main : KOReader : kfmon : koreader.png

# Launch KOReader directly via NM (>= KOReader 2020.05)
#menu_item : main : KOReader : cmd_spawn : quiet : exec /mnt/onboard/.adds/koreader/koreader.sh

#menu_item : main : Inverted Landscape : nickel_orientation : inverted_landscape

#menu_item : main : Sleep : power : sleep

#menu_item : main : Reboot : power : reboot

#menu_item : main : Power off : power : shutdown

Even after reboot, the new items don't show up, though. What am I doing wrong?

I would also actually add stuff to entirely new, different config files, as the OCP ones (kfmon/koreader/plato) will be replaced without mercy by OCP updates .

Thanks, removing the # worked! Funnily enough, it was included in the original file before the KoReader command. That's why I wrote it before the new entries.

It's not old devices vs new devices. It's the firmware that's being used. The developer of KSM says not to use it in the first ost of the KSM 09 thread. That means it's not working with newer firmware. I don't know what the firmware cutoff for works/not working is.

It is also new devices: it's subtly broken on any and all Mk. 7 devices, for instance.

Sorry for my late reply due to holidays.
After checking again to produce screenshots for you, the problem disappeared.

Sorry for that and keep up

I'm really sorry, but I don't understand how to proceed. I got the Nickemenu-icon in the reader as described. Then I've created a .txt-file and named it config.

But what shall I do with the text in the .doc-file? I don't really understand the instructions. Should I copy everything into the config file? That didn't do anything after rebooting.

Thanks in advance

you have to uncomment (remove # symbol in the beginning of each line) to have your config worked.
for example:
Code:
menu_item :main :Show an Error :dbg_error :This is an error message!
menu_item :main :Do Nothing :cmd_spawn :sleep 60
menu_item :main :Dump Syslog :cmd_spawn :logread > /mnt/onboard/.adds/syslog.log
menu_item :main :Kernel Version :cmd_output :500:uname -a
menu_item :main :Sketch Pad :nickel_extras :sketch_pad
menu_item :main :Plato :kfmon :plato.png
generator :main :kfmon
menu_item :reader :Invert Screen :nickel_setting :toggle :invert
menu_item :reader :Invert Orientation :nickel_orientation :invert
pls read the doc carefully so that you understand how it works

I now copied the whole text into the file I created and named Config. Then I removed the # for the two things I wanted.

menu_item :reader :Invert Screen :nickel_setting :toggle :invert
menu_item :reader :Invert Orientation :nickel_orientation :invert

I then saved the file and unmounted the reader, but when I press the Nickel icon nothing happens. I have read the document. What did I miss?
