I'm willing to add additional options to nickel_setting, but I think I decided against supporting completely arbitrary ones for now since most other settings won't apply instantly on their own.

Hello,

in the doc file, we could add an icon for apps when we are using kfmon :

menu_item : main : KOReader : kfmon     : koreader.png

But in the nickel menu, there is no icon, isn't it ?
For example, when we add the line in the menu using NM, there is not an icon param :

@dem1980fr: There's also no icon when using a kfmon action. The PNG's (base) filename is just used as a unique key to identify what to launch.

Sidebar: much simpler to rely on the kfmon generator than handle those manually.

Nope. From what I've tried, you need to install it the recommended way and then open it with the vlasovsoft launcher.

NickelMenu v0.3.1

This release adds a few new actions and menu locations. In addition, there are some minor improvements to the documentation.

You can now add items to the `library` menu. This is perfect for actions like `nickel_misc:rescan_books_full` or other actions mainly only useful in the library, but all actions will work here.
You can now add items to the `browser` menu. This can be used for actions like `nickel_setting:toggle:invert`, but all actions will work here too.
The new `power:sleep` action will make the Kobo sleep, the same thing as when you press the power button.
The new `nickel_orientation` action allows you to control the screen orientation, even on devices which don't have an orientation sensor. This includes access the inverted orientations. There are options for setting the current orientation (`portrait`, `landscape`, `inverted_portrait`, `inverted_landscape`) and for changing it (`invert`, `swap`). See the documentation for more details.

Firmware 4.23.15505

This update changes large parts of how the navigation works. While NickelMenu is still safe to use and will still add menu items to the other (library, browser, reader) menus, items added to the main menu will not appear. In addition, actions related to navigation (mainly nickel_open and nickel_misc:home) may not work correctly.

I will be working on an update to NickelMenu to re-add support for the main menu sometime this week. I will probably do it one (or both) of two ways: adding an entirely new menu which appears when pressing the new clock in the top-left, or adding items to the "More" tab on the new bottom navigation.

I like it, it lets NickelMenu be free of any clutter of the built in ones without needing to patch those options out. And I agree with you that it makes the bottom navigation look better overall.

As for an icon, what about something like

Since it'd depict tinkering (the hammer/wrench), and changing settings (the gear).

Nice icon. Hey, if you have to add a new icon to the bottom bar for NickelMenu anyway, can we add a second one for a second set of menu entries?

Although, I think half the entries in my current menu are now redundant with the bottom bar anyway so maybe I don't need an overflow menu.
