Can't be. Kozlowski's article was posted a day after the one from The E-Book Reader, so it is obvious that the guys from The E-Book Reader travelled back and forth in time to steal Kozlowski's article, (very slightly) improve its English and post it before him. Some people will stop at nothing.

Amazon never releases sales figures for their hardware division in all of their fiscal reports. The only way to accurately determine how many units have been sold is to look at verified reviews.

The Kindle Voyage has only garnered 7,342 reviews on Amazon since it launched in November of 2014. This is fairly paltry considering the entry level Kindle Basic Touch came out at the exact same time and has 12,389 customer reviews. Things are so bleak for the Voyage, in terms of sales that the 4 month old Kindle Paperwhite has more reviews, clocking in at 7,684.

Seems like a pretty valid argument, and backed up by data. Interesting.

Actually, if we accept the reviews are accurate data about sales (which isn't even possible at all), a product that costs more than twice selling that much compared to the cheap one is a massive success.

I really could care less on the whole "flop" angle of the article title. This is the normal spectacularization one expects to find in journalism.

Comparing verified purchase reviews between devices on Amazon is actually a pretty good way of comparing sales between Kindles. It's not guaranteed, but it's probably as accurate as most surveys you'll read. Given Amazon's secretive nature, it's actually about the most accurate comparative sales data between Kindles that we have. An interesting article and good journalism. Thanks to the original poster for highlighting it.

It would be interesting to update the data and compare the number of verified purchase reviews of the Voyage, the PW3 and the basic Kindle, adjusted for date of release. This would give a pretty good idea of comparative sales up till now, though obviously it wouldn't say much about actual total sales, though perhaps estimates of Kindle sales from other sources could be applied to give absolute figures. Really, an interesting piece that deserves it's own thread.
