Well as advertised, I returned my delstar reader today. Anyone still holding onto theirs hoping they get their act together?

Well yes....

The power button now works and it plays music pretty well: and if as someone else said you can put videos onto it, I think I'll wait a bit longer and see if either the firmware fixes get better, or somebody develops a hack for it.

I have debated back and forth and I finally decided to return mine today. As much as I love the idea of a color and backlit display I just cant overlook the lack of formatting. Add in the fact that I can't install the latest update because the firmware update tool won't recognize my reader and when watching a video there is actually a noticible scratch (mine didn't come with a plastic cover over the screen) and the cons outweigh the pros. I may look it up in a couple months and see if they have made any improvements. For the moment it doesn't look like the price is going to jump back up. Best of luck to anyone that holds on to it.

Mine is about to be sent back. I had to call Walgreens and have them send me a new packing slip since I lost my original packing slip. I would wait longer but I can't seem to get the device recognized by the updater tool anymore. Anyone else seeing this? If I don't figure out what's wrong with it, I won't be able to update it even if they do release new firmware or a hack.

I had to reinstall the 'tool' while the reader was plugged into the cord to get a second update installed on mine

I returned mine Saturday. There is no local Walgreens where I live so it cost another $10 in postage and insurance to return it.

I found that I needed to have the SD card plugged into the unit for it to be seen by the firmware update tool (I had the card plugged in when I did the first update, but then had it removed initially before trying the second update). You may wish to try both with, and without, an SD card to see if that makes any difference.

So, has there been anyone actually keeping theirs or happy with it? I wasn't looking for video or audio. Just something I can load books on and read in bed, leave it on the nightstand all of the time and just read at night for a little before dropping off. I am using an old pda at the moment but would like something a little bigger.
Your opininons on that level?

So what are the fixes in this current update? Although I returned my Openbook, I am still interested in the device. I will buy again once the all the major fixes are done.

Only if you only intend to read text files. Or that was last report I had. The new firmware is unlikely to fix its problems but there is always room for a pleasant change.

Same here. I went to download it, just so I could look at it.

I just took mine back yesterday. Walgreens didnt refund my shipping though which sucks. They seemed puzzled about what to do with the cover too.

In case anyone is feeling adventurous:
Use coupon code THANKS10 to save $10.00 on any purchase of at least $40.00 at Walgreens.com. This even includes sale items
