Well, it seems that B&N decided to make you authorize your Adobe ID via the device settings instead of through ADE.
But I would assume as long as you use the same Adobe ID in ADE and the NGP, your ebooks will be readable on the NGP although ADE still won't recognize the device. Copy them manually, via the file browser. And ![]() You're very successful, although I am not sure why you want to be successful in that... |

The more I use this new Nook the more I like it and yet, the more I realize it isn't a finished product. I'm pretty sure they rushed it out for the Holiday season before it was ready. Actually I don't feel too bad about that as long as they finish it. I'm a pretty patient guy.
One example of that is the way the screen is always flashing, not when I turn a page but when I do anything else. I tap the Home button and the screen refreshes and then it goes to the home screen and when it gets there it refreshes again. I tap the book to go back into it and the number of refreshes I get before I have a clear page to look at varies from 3 to about 5. And there are a lot of other examples. As a retired programmer who's written about 3.5 decades of sloppy software I can easily recognize sloppy software when I see it. Sloppy software is part of the process of getting to good software and this just isn't there yet. I think they have a pretty good start and if they keep going this could turn into a very nice reading device. Even with all the little problems I'm already enjoying it. It'll never be a Kindle but I already like it more than I like my Kobos. And I do like the Kobos, too. I just watched this video comparison with the Kindles: http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/201...-review-video/ Nathan points out another issue I hadn't noticed, that it has no quick way to move through a long list of books. On my Kindle that wouldn't bother me because I only keep a few books on the Kindle but I was planning to use this as a kind of storeroom of books for browsing and I'm not sure now whether this is a good choice for that. This is a feature they could add in the future easily enough and I hope this is another example of it being unfinished and not a design choice. By the way, this morning I tried putting tape over the N Home button so I won't keep hitting it. I tried this with both Scotch tape and a cut out piece of mailing label. Neither works. Both constantly activate the Home button without me even touching it and they make the device unusable. I'll be able to get a small piece of electrical tape tomorrow and I'll try that. It'll be ugly but maybe it'll work. Barry Last edited by barryem; 11-08-2015 at 10:48 AM. |

As much as I like the Nook in general and as much as I like the Glowlight Plus (hardware wise), I can't help but feel like the omission of ADE support by switching to MTP, was done on purpose. As weird as this may sound to a lot of people... I believe B&N is purposely trying to tank the Nook so they can get out of the business. I really believe even if the problems are fixed, this will be the final Nook B&N will release and the Nook will be finished for good.

I agree. I suspect the lack of ADE support is just another example of it not being finished yet. B&N has said it was coming. Someone already said they got the update that includes it so it probably is.
Be patient and if it doesn't get here in a month or two or three then start complaining. In the meantime it does what it does pretty well. I still think the Voyage is the best ereader we can buy today but this new Nook and the Kobo's are also really good. When a fine ereader like my Kobo Glo is about the worse device on the market we readers are in pretty good shape. ![]() Barry |

Having said all of that, I do believe this will end up being the final Nook. B&N may sell this one for a year or maybe two, but I doubt seriously there will be another one unless the Nook business becomes profitable. The writing is sadly on the wall for the Nook and I say that as someone who likes the Nook and the Glowlight Plus (at least hardware-wise). |

Disabling a feature on their website costs relatively little to nothing compared to producing a new device. I'm not saying the lack of ADE support at launch was a good idea. Merely that it likely was not part of some grand overall scheme to get out of making devices. They could have done that, and not pissed off anyone so long as they continued to sell content for their own devices and other devices. And that would have also cost them less than producing a new device. It's possible they could have done an software upgrade to the 2013 Glowlight disabling ADE support if they wanted. Put it under the guise of some other feature being added. Basically producing a new device with the end goal being to no longer produce devices because of lack of features provided in that device is the most expensive route they could have taken. But we're veering a bit off topic. |

Updates just keep on comin'... Now I have software version 4.5.1.40. The little changelog from B&N remains the same, though: Adobe DRM, bug fixes, performance improvements. I wonder if there's a way to turn off the updates, other than to not use WiFi!

I still have yet to get updates except the initial one that added Readouts. When I check via settings it says no updates available.

I used to use ADE with Google Play Books, but I always had trouble with it so I no longer use it. Sorry. Hopefully, someone else will have the answer.
