The Kindle itself does not display collections within collections so it wouldn't make sense for this software to do that either.

Yes that's right.

I've created valid JSON code in the collections.json file that would describe sub-collections, but the Kindle firmware is parsing the level 1 collections, but ignoring the level 2's.

We'll have to wait for Amazon to pull their finger out and release proper sub-collection support.

I just tested it first time after downloading it yesterday. Looks very nice!
I see, multi-selection is already planned vor Version 0.5.
I like the look and feel overall, just a few small things I noticed while trying to sort a lot of books into several collections:
- the collections window does not autoscroll, when you drag a file to it. That makes it necessary to first scroll the window to the right position, when the target-collection is not visible.
- Also the collections seem to always expand, when I drag a file into them. If I have a lot of files in a collection, that makes all other collections disappear. Please make it possible to leave collections closed.

I had no errors or crashes, everything worked just great on my Kindle2i - waiting for my Kindle3 to ship and I will try it on that one, too.

Now what I would really like, is this to go into calibre. Not only as plugin, but as core functionality, like the Sony collections. And the possibility to auto-create collections from tags. One can dream

I agree with this wholeheartedly! As a former Sony user, I really miss the way it synced my Calibre tags so easily.

The only problem I've had with KCM, so far, is that if I have a duplicate file on my Kindle, the program won't open.

I'll fix the autoscroll in the next version

I'll add an option in the "settings" dialogue to set whether collections are expanded when books are dropped onto them.

Thanks for your feedback - much appreciated.

Kindle Collection Manager v0.4.1 has been released

Hi,

I've just released v0.4.1 of the Kindle Collection Manager.

If you've already registered with the beta programme via http://www.Colegate.net/KindleCollectionManager, you can download the latest version using the same link in the email you received when you registered. If you don't have the email any more, don't worry, just register again and you'll get a new one ;-)

If you haven't already registered, please do so and click on the link in the email you'll receive.

Changes from v0.4 to v0.4.1
  • Added support for TXT files.
  • Added a solution for handling duplicate eBooks with DRM File IDs. This allows duplicates to be "tidied up" or ignored.
Feedback
  • I would value any comments you have about the app including...
  • It's look and feel.
  • Any problems or errors you see.
  • Any changes or enhancements you'd like to see in the app.
  • How you're using the app and how you benefit from it.
I look forward to hearing from you - even if it's just to say "no problems".

Thanks and best regards

BTW, to install an update, do I have to uninstall the previous version?

I would recommend uninstalling the previous version before installing the new one.

Have you done a hard reset on the kindle?

Hold the on/off button in the on position for 15 seconds or select "restart" from the settings menu.

Yes, first update your firmware to the current version.

Also, Have you registered your Kindle? Collections cannot be created on an unregistered device.

Yes, the autoscroll will be a must.

And I have one more suggestion, can we sort the order of the collections on its alphabetic order (a lot easier to search among dozens of collections!).
I must, otherwise, recognize that the last collection read should remain first on its queue so you don't need to browse pages and pages to have your last reading.
Actually, if you order it alphabetically you can have one two collections that will fit, for instance, *Actually Reading* and *Already Read*, both start with an "A" and will be among the firsts...

That will be very ease with KCM to manage back and forth books from its original collections to the ones I suggested. And, of course you can move it again to their original collections , via KCM, as one wishes.

Jacques

PS: Adrian, KCM 0.4.1 works as advertised, I replicated the original backup and "bingo", the double copies were screened. Kudos!
