Once you get the "key", it runs quite happily on a MAC running 10.5 if you follow the instructions as per notsure's post. I haven't tried it on 10.6, but I understand from comments at the end of the thread that you(I) may need to re-compile the pycrypto part.

Yes, its "move", it can move to a different directory or just rename.

My turn to ask for help... (And I hope my explanation isn't too detailed, if so please moderators edit it, hopefully it'll still make sense)

I run WinXP MCE
I have an authorized ADE
I have Active Python 2.6.2.2 installed (it works for mobi)
I have installed PyCrypto 2.1.0
I have ran ineptkey.pyw and have a file called adeptkey.der
I download a free epub that ought to be secure from BoB (Selections from fragile things) and it opens normally in ADE
I find the file in My Digital Editions (format *.pdf doublecklicking reroutes to ADE and opens it in ADE)
I open ineptepub.pyw and look for the file via the "..."-button, it looks for *.epub format as default, and naturally can't find it or the *.pdf. I then manually zip the book to see what happens. If choosing all formats, I can then choose the zipped book-file and I choose a destination.
I try to run it and get the error message "Error: File is not a zip file"

Is the book a non drm:ed one or what is causing the problem? I downloaded it today from BoB and it had the lock beside it. What format should the downloaded secure epub book be in?

This is a PDF, not an ePub, so use ineptpdf.pyw.

I'm vurious though: how come the "epub book" I downloaded was in pdf format and still opened by ADE? Is a proper epub book in a *.epub or *.zip format?

It is listed at BoB as a secure Adobe Digital Edition. This typically means PDF (ADE reads both PDF and ePub). At BoB an ePub will be listed as Adobe ePub, see for example Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman which has both Adobe ePub and Adobe Digital Edition versions. If both are available, buy the ePub version.

Just wanted to add my heartfelt thanks also - took me a while to figure it out and piece together all these posts (in light of the fact you can't outline on the boards) but piece it together nonetheless. It worked perfectly!

Concerned about the changes coming to epub drm via bn.com... more at teleread.org on the change. I'm hoping a new tool will be available for epub should more than bn.com use the new system?

Don, what changes do you mean? bn.com does not sell ePub books, they sell in eReader format.

Sorry, guess I should have provided the link. It appears that there will be 2 flavors of epub, which should make life interesting. I'm wondering if we might get a tool for working with the new epub format once it's out.

I'm hoping that the existing tools will continue to work. ADE does store it's keys in clear text, so that makes working with it much easier.
