I got off the phone with them today...its been week # 2 and no 950...They said there customer service site was closed last week and I would be getting it by the end of the week. I hope they don't plan on me returning this demo unit its been too much of a hassle getting my replacement.

I decided to call again today after reading new comments. They are not very helpful are they? I was told call again in five days. The order is with another department and customer service can't take it over unless 20 days have passed. Then they can cancel etc.
One new piece of information. I made the statement that everything worked okay except that I had some problem with wifi. I did not specify the problem, but he responded that yes there can be problems with the wifi freezing and having turn the wireless on and off to get it working. That's exactly the issue was seeing, so I've glad to see that I will get some benefit when the new unit arrives. |

Battery issues
I notice that the battery does not have the staying power advertised. Maybe the battery weakness is another problem?! BTW, day 10 (Thanksgiving) and no replacement. Maybe tomorrow... but I don't have high hopes.

I got a different story, CS said they could cancel the replacement order but they could not see status of the replacement via their computer system. The only way the can get status is by calling over to the fulfillment department who apparently don't answer the phone.
I called CS 8 days after they'd put in the replacement order and told them I wanted to cancel it because the unit was going back to Best Buy. The CS person said that was fine and she'd try to call the fulfillment dept., and put me on hold (she wanted to make sure the replacement unit wasn't already in the shipping stage). She came back on the line and said fulfillment was apparently experiencing high call volume and weren't answering the phone (oye). But she stated she could cancel the order no problemo, and if in fact it was shipping as we spoke, I could use the return label to ship it back. |

Back to Best Buy
I returned my unit to Best Buy today and had no problem although I've had the unit since 10/24. I figured if nothing else I can get the unit for $50 less as I paid $299 and it's now $249. I also figured if I go another route, I can just return the sony unit unopened. I will probably call today to find out what they would charge me for it. Maybe I can do $249 minus shipping.

Although somewhat unrelated, I think, I bought a 950 from Best Buy at the $249 price. I already own a 350 and in the past had the 505, 300, 600, and 900. All the previous models and the 350 connected just fine using my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit desktop. But I have still not gotten the 950 to connect to my desktop, although it will connect to my Windows XP netbook.
When I tried to connect the 950 the first time it tried to install the driver but failed. I contacted Sony CS and was treated like pooh because I bought the 950 from Best Buy rather than directly from Sony. They basically told me I could either send it to them for repair or return it to Best Buy. I was never given an option of having a replacement sent to me. As it urns out, the 950 I bought is fine and just has a problem with my desktop. So I'm using the netbook instead. But Sony CS is as worthless as teats on a boar hog. (A bit of home spun humor.) I've ownd every Sony reader with the exception of the 500 and 700. So I like their products. But I hate Sony and their arrogant BS. When I compare the "customer is always correct" attitude I've always received from Amazon towards the Kindles I've owned, it just makes me hate Sony even more. I hope you guys get a satisfactory closure from Sony CS, but I doubt it will happen. Last edited by jswinden; 11-27-2010 at 12:41 PM. |

I guess it's nice to know that Amazon CS can do something right... as a seller (and occasional purchaser) on Amazon, I have found their CS to full of the most arrogant and self-serving B* and absolutely useless in any way whatsoever... Once more CS is in the eye (ear or email) of the beholder.

Just got back into town Saturday night; found a USPS certified mail notice in my box. Says a package from Sony. No notice that they shipped it. I'll fill ya'll in after I pick it up tomorrow.
