Nook 1.5 - Wish List

I did this after a few months of the 1.3 firmware so I thought I'd do it again. What do you think should be in the 1.5?

My list:
  • Combine B&N and My Library
  • Support for folders and sub-folders
  • Ability to delete documents

Overall, I am pretty happy with my device.

However, as my digital library grows, I am finding I need a better way to catalogue my books. Also, I download sites through Calibre weekly. It would be nice to be able to delete old versions when I am done with them.

I'd like to see the dictionary move inline like the Kindle instead of having to page out to it.

I don't want to combine the B&N Library with My Library.

that being said, I want:

Books to be put into collection by tags or series
Books into Folders and Sub Folders
Easier dictionary use( easier way to get to it)

I really want folders or collections like Sony has. I also think having the ability to preview the metadata of the book such as a the back cover synopsis would be great too.

I don't need the cover view for my books but it would be nice as well.

Well put! I'd offer the same top three wishes here too.... yet I too am very pleased with the nook. Overall it's a great device and B&N's ongoing support is greatly appreciated!

Let me add an unusual nice to have. The Kobo, prior to the latest update, had a feature where the screensaver was always the cover page of the book you were currently reading. I thought that was a great idea. Apparently they removed it in the latest update to put some print on the screen and their exec's have been online saying that YES they will put it back. They had no idea it was such a popular feature.

Folder organization.

Being able to sort by, and show only one, Author or series in My Library.

Cover flow would be nice, but definitely not necessary if it slows other good things from happening!
Loving the Nook so far! And this from a self confessed Sony Fan-boy!

In order of preference:

-More eBook formats (txt, doc, html, etc.)
-A dictionary icon in the main menu
-Folders
-More font sizes

With many documents I have to squint to see the text when it is set to small and setting it to medium means I have to flip to the next page too often. For many documents either medium or small is fine but for the others it would be nice to have a size that is nearer to what you would find in an actual book.

It would also be nice if groups of books in a certain series would be displayed in series order.

New Nook owner here, but here are my top few:

-note taking/ highlighting is too laborious. It needs to be slicker and more easily accessed from the menu (i.e. the menu should be static to what your last action was). In addition, the cursor position should be somewhere more accessible to the middle of the page to save time scrolling. It all just takes too much time.

-word look up needs to be streamlined. Word look-up should happen within the page I'm reading.

-although a wish more than anything, I'd like to be able to have some social interaction from the Nook. (i.e. sharing highlighted passages or lines, seeing what my "friends" have notated or highlighted from their reading of the same book. Also maybe some Twitter/ Facebook interactions...

Again, these are small quibbles. Otherwise, this device is pretty much what I'vewanted/ needed.

I downloaded a bunch of book cover jegs and put them in the screensaver folder. It works pretty well with randomized covers from my library.

@kamn,
The nook already has a built-in dictionary. Or did you mean you were unsatisfied with the current one and wanted something better? I've only had to look up very few words, so far, and found them, but some people are apparently not happy with it.

I'm surprised people want more font sizes. With v1.4, the nook already has, what, seven? How many more tiny, incremental sizes could you want? Seven is surely more than enough.

I wholeheartedly agree with these. Cover Flow would be nice, but I'm guessing B&N won't do it. They probably feel they have to distinguish their own ebooks somehow, and this is one way that users might be tempted to consider B&N over rival stores (assuming price and other factors are equal, of course).

The current method for displaying books by author (last) name and then alphabetical order is very limited. I want more control over how the books should be sorted (whether Author, Title, Date, Genre or whatever), and, related to that, I want it to actually recognise and sort depending on the tags.

I hate that I have to name my series by adding "#1", "#2" in front of the name. I don't have to do that in my MP3 player, why should I do that with my nook? That's what metadata is for. Recognise that Book X is the third of four books in a series, and list it accordingly.

I think if they do that, then support for browsing folders becomes a non-issue for me. In essence, I want my ebooks to be organised the way my music is: Artists (Authors) / Albums (Series) / Tracks (Books), with the relevant metadata recognised for when I want to search by genre or even date. (Currently, only books in My B&N Library are sorted by the date added.)
