Dropped My Clie, Had A Heartattack

Well, today, after 6 years of owning a PDA, I dropped my PDA for the first time ever. I was at the gym and it fell about 3 feet onto carpet covered concrete. After my heart restarted, I noticed the screen had been dislodged and was not sitting on the swivel properly. I was able to reseat it properly when I got home.

It made me wonder about other sob stories about PDAs. I mean if I had to send it in for repair, I'm not sure what to do. So, please post your stories with their eventual resolution or lack thereof here.

I have an Innopocket case, and though I've dropped my Clie (T615C) a couple of times, I've been very lucky. Once I dropped it at a car dealership with the top open as I was taking notes, and it flipped off the car and onto the pavement. Fortunately it dropped on the case and not the digitizer.

I also had a bad experience recently with my stylus. On this model there is a problem with the stylus not sitting in the silo correctly. The thing constantly falls out, and I've been too lazy to deal with it. I usually wind up groping around in my bag until I find it. I finally lost it on vacation and was paralyzed.

I ordered new ones, and when they came I said, "No more losing my stylus!" and tried the "tape trick". Essentially you try and fatten up the stylus so that it can't slip out. Well and good, except I bought a stylus that has a pen tip at one end, and not realizing it -- it's a pull-off top not a screw-off top! Ack.

So the stylus was then trapped in the silo. I read stories of people irreparably harming their pda's by opening the case up. I was flipping out, but I knew what I had to do. Finally, with some bravery and some online instructions, I opened the Clie's case and retrieved the stylus.

No more tape for me!

Just curious if you're still under warranty. That makes the difference. I am unfortunately not.

I once dropped my Clie (N770C) and it fell like 1 meter on the sidewalk. To my surprise, it survived the fall (beside some minor scratches on the case).

Dropped Mine

Hey,

Dropped all of my handhelds and laptops one time or another. Dropped my solo, edge, prism, powerbook g3, powerbook duo, and my ipod. I wish I had a picture of my face each time. But I'm thankful that nothing happened. The most amazing fall was when my ipod fell while it was connected to my friend's stereo. It fell around 4 feet onto a concrete patio and didn't skip a beat. I was like whoa.

I've managed to drop my SJ33 Clie twice this month, once on a cement sidewalk and once on a tile floor. Only real damage was from the drop to the sidewalk; the flip cover broke off and was not reattachable. Went to Amazon and ordered two of the replacement flip covers they have - these replacement covers are very nice because they do not take fingerprints, unlike the original cover that came with the Clie!

Also, now that I think about it, after the drop onto the sidewalk, the bezel for the screen was very slightly separated from the case right next to the point the flip cover broke off. I managed to get it snapped back into place.

Other than that, I've been impressed the SJ33 came through the two drops fully operational!

The Palm Graveyard

There's a fascinating archive of PDA-related mishap-ness over at The Palm Graveyard.

It includes stories of PDA's overcoming incredible odds and thriving, as well as PDA's that fell, like, 2 inches and shattered.

It's so compelling to me that I even added it as a channel on iSilo.

Compelled.

I know this is a very old post, but I dropped my Dash today......
I am so sad. It was in the case but all sides aren't protected and my
smartphone got a few nicks on it. Ooo, that hurts.

Sorry to hear it...

I forgot about this thread. I was sweeping my bed smooth with my hand a few months ago in the dark and I forgot that my x51v was on the bed. My hand knocked it off the bed and it fell to the ground, in it's case, and broke the screen. $150.00 later,...

I had a similar incident with bedding... I was flipping over some covers and didn't realize I had fallen asleep with my Treo in it. I was more fortunate, however - it hit the (carpeted) floor with no damage. Phwew!!! What a sick feeling that is!
