iTunes U(niversity)

Have you guys seen this yet? I'm pretty much blown away right now. Apple managed to team up with Stanford and a whole bunch of other colleges nation/world wide.

They stream their lectures on a week delay from when the class started. Right now I've been bitten by an iAp bug and am trying to learn iOs programming for the iPad/iPhone. And, just as luck would have it, I find a class on programming.

I'm loving it. My brain's pretty much turned to mush thanks to all the glorious television and video games that exist now. I miss college and lectures, but there's really no colleges close to me, with the exception of the local community college, that only lectures on Associate grade material...still, this is pretty interesting.

I saw this news story recently:
http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-...nclick_check=1

Quote:
Downloads from Apple's 3-year-old iTunes U have exceeded 300 million, the Cupertino maker of Mac computers and mobile devices announced Tuesday.
In a news release, Apple said iTunes U now includes 350,000 audio and video files from more than 800 colleges and universities, including elite institutions such as Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
But to tell the truth, I have no way of knowing what those numbers mean It sounds like a lot of downloads, but I don't have any comparison point for it.

Glad you found a great use for all that information out there though!

I've sat through a few of these, and have quite a few more planned. Love the fact that this stuff comes from schools all around the world!

Yes, I love that feature, though I generally hate iTunes.

Yes, iTunes is an awful program as far as I am concerned, but I do like the access to all this learning material.

Having discovered this some time back and listened to a lot of physics lectures again, which I never seem to tire of for some reason - I could listen all day, I went and surfed the net for these universities and they do offer all this material direct from their sites too in a lot of instances.

However, I guess as bad as it may be, iTunes does centralise the searching and collating of the material.

Yes, that's what I've found, too. iTunes makes for a quick one-stop look. Love that convenience.

I love iTunes personally, but I've also used the application even before it became iTunes.. :P

And iTunes U is amazing. I can't live without it. Highly recommended, and you can always find something new to learn!

I downloaded a few videos when I first heard about it, about a year ago I think. There was some interesting stuff, but on the other hand there is so much intersting stuff all over the internet, I can't look at all of it

Maybe I should look again though, I suppose there must be more content now. How do you find stuff? Do you use the search function? I always find it difficult to find things in the iTunes store, unless I know exactly what I am looking for, and I usually don't, except for apps. For instance, browsing for music or videos never seems to bring up much I'm interested in. Never tried to look for books.

It is a bit bloated, I have to agree. Hard to find stuff.

But select iTunes U in the store, go down 3/4 of the front page, and there you see 5 big button; Business, Arts, History, Science and Language.. CLick the one that interests you, and you can then select something more specific in the left side. And remember to click the "See all" whenever it is available for a subject.

But yes, browsing in the iTunes store sucks hard I just realised.. :P

You'll find quite a lot of academic videos here. They have several of the universities that iTunes carry, but the site is friendlier than iTunes. There's also Yovisto, an academic video search engine, which seems pretty rich.
