Not a major fiction publisher, but Steve Jackson Games have been doing this for the last year or two with their hardbacks. The PDF's coming out about 3 months ahead of the hardcover, which gives a short window of a couple of weeks for any last minute errors to be spotted before the final proofs go to press.

Why not? The p-Book needs to go into production and be made, but if they've typset it electronically, then creating an e-Book is trivial to do.
(Just don't tell anybody because the big publishers want you to believe that it costs more to "make", "warehouse", and distribute an e-Book) |

I ordered an HC ebook from Amazon yesterday and sales tax was added. Called Amazon CS about it and they said that HC insised on the sales tax. Wish that was made clear before the purchase was made.

So everybody pays sales tax on books from the Price-Fix Five. It has been thoroughly documented here and elsewhere. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83663 https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86127 |

Many small publishers release e-books first, including mine. I think we'll see more and more of this from independents. Yet for most books, the Big 6 are still holding back...and alienating readers.
