Calibre with an unpatched PRS 505

Does Calibre no longer work with the unpatched PRS-505's? I had it working fine under Ubuntu 9.04 with an old copy, but when I reinstalled linux I grabbed a new copy of Calibre. The USB device shows up as being recognized by linux, but Calibre won't recognize it.

So I jumped to windows computer and loaded the windows version of Calibre. Windows recognized the Sony, and loaded the drivers successfully. But again, Calibre doesn't see it.

Is there something else going on, or does Calibre just not recognize the unpatched versions (e.g., the original firmware)?

Does the device show up as a disk?

What "Original Firmware" are you talking about? If your 505 can read ePubs then it has been patched beyond the "Original firmware".

Hook your 505 up then go to Preferences - Advanced - Debug device detection. Copy the output here.

I don't believe so, at least on the linux box, as it doesn't show up in my /media folder or as a disk in nautilus.

Is there another way to tell?

Look for the /dev/sd* nodes being created when the device is plugged in or look at the dmesg output when the device is plugged in
