350 for $75, 650 for $125 -- I did it, you can do it too

Sony has a sale going in America; they have discounted the PRS-350 to $150 and the 650 to $200. It runs through 27 November.

Also, they have a trade-in program running through 1 January. They'll give $75 trade-in credit for any 'qualified' (almost anything qualifies) bit of electronics one has laying around and apply it toward a new eReader.

I took advantage. I had (notice the past tense referral) both a PRS-300 and 600. The 300 was okay but the 600 was terrible. In fact the poor screen quality of the 600 was the reason I bought the 300 -- but enough of that.

I discovered that I could combine the current discount with the trade-in allowance. I took my 300 & 600 to my Sony Style dealer and traded them in for the 350 and 650.

I wound up paying $75 for the 350 and $125 for the 650.

You can do the same. Check it out.

Cheers,
Joe

very interesting...

I'm saving for a 950 after having sold my 505. Today I called the Sony rep (from their website) about the tradein program to see if they would accept my Compaq 3950 PDA (which can be used as an ereader) as a candidate for the $75 coupon. He told me that this program only applies to other SONY branded readers. Other ebook devices would not get the full value and my PDA was not listed in their system. Oh well.. hope they have a sale next month past the current $50 off.

I hate to argue with that rep, but when i went to the online site, and entered my K3 as a 'trade in', it gave me the full $75 trade in price.

I have no intention of trading in,........just wanted to know if they would do it.

Anything you enter in the online tool returns a $75 value. The fine print says the online quote isn't binding, that you'll only know the full value when Sony receives the trade in unit.

The promotion is for all dedicated ereaders, so other brands are fine but other devices (such as a pda) that you have been using as a reader are not. If you have a reader you are iffy about go to the store don't send it in. If you have a store near you go to the store anyways because according to a thread on the sales & deals forum here it is taking 1 month to get your ecoupon and the sale prices only last a little more than a week.

I traded in my eBookman last night at the store and bought the 650 for $125. Also I didn't have to go 1 month without anything to read with.
