Epubs fail to open on JB v35m
I just updated my Jetbook from 34c (installed by factory) to 35m (downloaded from Ectaco website).
My txt files and pdf files can still be read, but every epub gets "Failed to open file!" message. My epubs are from a variety of sources. None of them have drm. All these epubs did open before. Answer found: I was using the naming convention "last, first#title" for all my books. This still works for the txt and pdf files, but NO LONGER WORKS for the epubs. I have renamed each file. Setting the name to "last, first_title" works for epubs. I've updated the post in case someone else has the same problem. Last edited by smg927; 08-21-2010 at 08:54 PM. Reason: Answer found! |

JBL 0.16e is the same - 0.16 used the # but the "e" version uses the "_"

I just don't understand this at all. Any idea why this would be a requirement? Regards - John |

I like to use the same format for all my file names, so that the books will sort in author/title order. For a single author I may have some books in txt format, but others in pdf or epub. On the JB, Ectaco had special handling for txt file names that did a pretty format in the book list if you named the file "author#title". The pretty format did not work for epub or pdf, but I used the same naming convention so that all my books would sort in author/title order. What seems to have happened on 35m, is that the # character is not accepted as a valid character in an epub file name. I found that the _ (underscore) character was acceptable so I renamed my files and they now open. Playing around, I have also found that the - (hyphen) character is acceptable. Now I have a few epubs named "author - title" which looks a bit nicer in the book list. Of course, the sorting isn't right anymore, but it is close enough. The Jetbook does not require any particular file name convention. Each user can pick what works best for himself. |
