Problem getting Calibre on Mac to work with ipod4 touch.

I recently discovered Calibre and have installed it on my iMac. Then I tried to sync it with my ipod4 touch. When I connected the ipod to the cable I got the following dialog:

Mount Failed
Internal fuse error (rc=1) while attempting to mount the file system. For now, the best way to diagnose is to look for error messages using Console.

The only error message I found in Console was:

5/21/11 9:03:25 PM com.apple.Dock.agent[315] Sat May 21 21:03:25 howard-deutchs-imac-2.local Dock[315] <Error>: kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSSetWindowTransformsAtPlacement: Singular matrix at index 2: [0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000]

I have no idea what this means.

All advice would be appreciated.

Calibre doesn't "sync" with IOS devices in the sense of making sure things are the same on both.
