Oh no-I can't stand paper anymore!!!

The day I never thought would come finally has. I have given up on paper based reading!

To explain I've tried a couple of e-reading apps on various PDAs and smartphones but never got on with them. Last November I convinced myself I needed an E-Reader, as I do read quite a bit, and bought the Cool-ER (RIP). Loved it and really convenient and no issues with the screen. Sadly the cooler died and I exchanged it under warranty for the Sony PRS 300 (so glad I did this now interead are no more!) which I liked even more.

Used it loads for reading at the start of the year but in May I got my iPad...and the sony has been off since...

I enjoy reading on the ipad even more (and no the LCD doesn't bother me) but then last week my Father-In-Law lent me Michel Connelys The Scarecrow - In paperback.

I tried.

I really tried!

But as much as I wanted to get on and read it I couldn't be happy reading a paperback! I've been spoilt by my e-readers!

Had to go online last night and find a copy of the book in epub (ahem) and loaded it onto the Sony...Ahhh happy times

Now I can finish the book happily and will not be going back to paper for a while!

Been there, done that!

I know what you mean. I find it a pain if I have to read a paper book. The annoyance of having to try to keep it open, no way to prop it up and still be able to read, cutting my fingers on the pages...

Only when I have absolutely no choice, I'll read a paper book (for example, Amber, I'd love to read it, but it's not in ebook format, sadly...)

Ditto. The only pbooks I read now are "coffee table" style books with lots of photos or illustrations - not available as ebooks.

I'm in the strongly prefer e-reader stage. The comfort and ease alone are well above physical books. If I move position, the e-book doesn't close. Also, I don't have to hold it open. Incomparably better reading experience.

However, there are still a lot of books that I want to read/do read that are out of publication and not classics. So the only way I can read them is in paper; in that case I prefer a hardback from the library.

An example is Isaac Asimov's old science essays. Some are dated, but I've never read anyone who can explain science to the layman as well as he could. So I suffer through.

I'm glad somebody's had the nerve to make this confession. I just realized this last week, when I found myself coming up with excuses to not read a "real book" that was given to me as a gift. (Oh, and the extra-sad thing is that like lots of really worthwhile books, it's one that will never be issued in electronic format.)

I haven't even got my ereader yet and I'm already pretty fed up with paper books. I often do things like cook or clean my teeth while reading and am fed up with the way they resist staying open at the right page. I broke my neck years back and have difficulty holding up heavy hardbacks when reading in bed. It's all very limiting!

For general novels etc then I'm all for e-books now!

I guess I'll jump in on the true confession thing -- I can't read paper books any more either. I feel sad even SAYING that, but it's true. The only "real" books that I even make an effort to read are knitting books and the occasional magazine.

I am the same. I never realised how annoying paper books could be until I started reading ebooks on a good reader

It's so easy to just switch it on and start reading.

I have a hard time reading paper books now, as well. I read paper books only if they are books that I really want to read and cannot find as an e-book.

Hi, I'm Jeannie and I'm an e-bookaholic.

I've been spoiled by them. At home, I read them from bed on my TV screen. Away from the house, I like my JetBook Lite. In both cases, no holding the book open or accidentally losing my place. I have one p-Book I'm stalling on reading until I can get my paper cutter fixed/replaced so I can cut off the spine and scan it before reading it.

That's what I do! When I realized I could use the e-reader whilst brushing my teeth, I was a happy camper. Now, I no longer waste 5 minutes or so while I brush & floss.

Just one word of caution though - watch out for drips/splatters.

I'm just saying...

Too true for me too.

I bought the most recent Wheel of Time book in hardcover, thinking it would be a treat. Now, several months later, I'm barely 50 pages in. It's just too heavy. And I *like* Brenden Sanderson.

Me too.

Paper books take *two hands.* Gah. And the pages keep trying to close.

I can read paper books, but it's a strain. I've got no problem with reference/coffee-table books like RPG manuals, that are chart-and-picture heavy, but for just reading? I borrowed a copy of Murasaki, which is probably never going to be released as an ebook, and it took me *forever* to wade through it.

Wait until you decide to clean off your bookshelves. It's so liberating! Last year I gave our library everything except my art and travel books. It was scary, but felt great to cut the ties to paper.
